this person wanted to pay for a item on craigslist by check sounds like a scam to me.

Is a reply to a Craigslist item a scam? Well:
(a) The buyer is calling from an out-of-State area code and the item you are selling is not rare.
(b) They offer you, or give, more money then you are asking for, by check.
(c) They only want to do business by text, or email & never in person, nor do they want to look at the item.
(d) They want to use a 3rd party shipping company to get the item.
(e) YOU are asked to use a cash wire transfer service (Western Union, etc.) to wire CASH to this person.
Is it a scam? Yes. These are the tell-tale signs of a Craigslist/Kijiji scam. A check can appear to clear your bank in 2-3 days, but in 4-6 weeks it will bounce. The bank name is usually good, but the transit numbers at the bottom are fake. ANY request by ANYONE you do not personally know to use a cash wire transfer service, for ANY reason, IS A SCAM.

Selling item on Cleveland Craig list for $300.  Wanted a picture. Texted back he wanted item and his terms were he would pay by check.  When check cleared his "agent" would pick up for shipping.  Then asked if this was an agreement.  I texted back and asked what bank the check was written from and what town.  The reply,  Federal credit Union, Butcher, Oh.  When I searched the credit union,   It was a bunch of pictures, some I would prefer not to see.  I will be ending this transaction.
