If you're able to do it, foil their plans by completely ignoring unknown calls. With only a number that rings, you'll hear nothing while callers are unable to deliver threats. Make short work of random calls from foreigners, especially posing as IRS agents or calling about computers. As soon as you notice the accent, hang up.

Man with foreign accent left a voice mail saying he was from the Treasury Department and I was going to be arrested.  My husband called him back and the guy wouldn't give his name but said his Federal Badge ID # was 879411.  After he kept asking about our 2013 tax returns my husband told him to get a job to which the man replied that my husband would be arrested in 5 minutes.  Husband hung up.  Definitely a scam.

Same message as prior posts. These guys are getting dumber. Keep hoping there's enough publicity about these scammers that no one falls for it. Also wish there was a choice under call type for "scammer."  These are not "pranks."  We did those as kids asking if your refrigerator was running. (Showing my age now...)

Foreign (middle eastern) male voice saying you better cooperate or you will face federal charges. This is another telemarketer terrorist attempt at extorting money while impersonating a government official.

Called and told me his name was Charlie Copper (Federal ID #11175486) Gave me a case # and said I owed $5450 from 2013. Then offered a payment plan of some sort or they would send an agent within 45 min. to arrest me and I could end up serving 9 years! Wow ..... All this from a bogus name I gave them. So I informed them I was on a private boat on vacation ..... He said they would come find me within the hour. I asked if they were coming via helicopter, boat or submarine. "Agent Charlie Cooper" couldn't keep a straight face and told me a Jet Ski while laughing and then hung up ..... I guess its a scam.

"Steve Martin" called me from the US treasury department saying that there is a federal offense against me and I have ignored court dates & would "advise not ignoring this warning". All in a foreign accent. Obviously a scam but it really creeped me out and it's 11pm at night! Trying to wake people up in the middle of the night & scare them while they're tired & out of it. Disgusting.

Glad you tried to get em. It scared me & I called the non-emergency police # and informed them, but said there's nothing they could do..could send a cop over to file a report but that's too much work. These people should be prosecuted though. Don't call my house phone at 11 fricken PM with a threatening message, it legit sounded like a terrorist speaking.

Yeah, scammer saying I had to call back or face serious consequences. My usual technique now when I don't recognize a number, particularly out of town, I just answer and immediately hang up. If they're serious, they'll call back.

I received the 'private number' call from the man with the heavy foreign accent who left me his number. Why hide the number from caller ID and then give me the number? Didn't make much sense to me. Also, I'm  not aware of any federal criminal charges brought against me.
    • Caller: Steve Martin was the name he gave.

Same as above "Steve Martin" left a message saying "I am calling for you!  Enforcement actions executed by US Treasury intending your serious attentions. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid an initial appearance before a Magistrate Judge or a Grand Jury for a federal criminal offense."  Then the call back number.  Seriously?
Once, one of these guys called me on the 4th of July. Didn't seem to realize it was a national holiday.
BTW, webmaster, you should add "phishing" and "fraud" to the Call Type dropdown list below.

My mom received the same calls as mentioned above. She thought she was going to jail. This is harassment and the person(people) should be arrested as scammers. I wonder how many people have sent them money for fear they would be arrested?!

Thousands have been scammed for millions. Tell your Mom there is nothing they can do to her, as they are calling from overseas and NOT TO TALK TO THEM! These are hardcore criminals who have even resorted to SWATTING of victims who refused to comply with their demands:

    http://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/cherokee-coun ... -them/407362161

These scammers are vindictive as hell and are stopping at NOTHING, to get their way. She has nothing to lose and everything to gain by not talking to them and reporting them to the appropriate agency:

There are numerous telephone and email scams in which individuals claim to be employees of the Treasury Department. These scammers often state that they are from the “Department of Legal Affairs,” offer grant money in exchange for you wiring a small payment, or threaten to arrest you within a short period of time unless payment is made. Do not provide personal information or payment to these individuals.  Their actions are crimes under Titles 18 and 31 of the United States Code, and the Treasury Office of Inspector General is working to stop them.

If they claim to be from Treasury, report  it to OIGCounsel@oig.treas.gov with a description.  If it was a phone contact, include:
the exact date and time that you received the call(s)
the phone number of the caller
the geographic location and time zone where you received the call
    a description of the communication.

If they claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or it is about taxes, report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at:
    https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml

    https://www.treasury.gov/services/report-fwa/Pages/Report-Email-Scams.aspx

If the calls continue, you may want to consider investing in a call blocker for your Mom. Just google them on the internet. Amazon sells them for a nominal cost.
