Same deal with me. Guy named James wanted to buy my table, pay me through paypal, and then send his 'shipper' to pick it up for him. Definitely smells fishy and definitely a scam

Same MO today with me. Would have figured it out when I got his emaiil from " Paypal Int'l unitdept@secureroot.com", but meanwhile this african - french sounding man began an earnest campaign via email and phone and text to get me to understand that if I followed the directions clearly sent to me, I would soon be in possession of $880 for my kid's furniture set, asking price of $200. The balance of $680 was "$50 extra for the moneygram, then $630 for shipper, which i was supposed to remit as soon as I got it.
I soon got an email verifying that the money was in my bank, according to Paypal Int'l, unitdept@secureroot.com. Then he started pestering me to send him his $630. I played along with this guy for several hours by staying overly passive and maleable, assuring him I was doing everything he said. His next tactic was to tell me that paypal was going to initiate legal action against me for not "playing my part" in this arrangement. I pleaded with him not to have me arrested and told him I would try to borrow the money from my relatives. Then I told him I had dropped my baby on the floor trying to get out my credit card (I don't have any baby) and would have to call him back. Etc, etc. etc. He didn't seem to speak good english, and routes his calls through some international call center that asks for your name in order to contact him.  He soon begain texting me every 5 minutes. finally I told him I had sent him a new paypal invoice for $680, and as soon as he paid that, I would pay him. When he started getting overly angry, I sent him an email and a text saying google wanted to know more about him, and now I had both paypal and google calling me telling me they were going to initiate legal action against him if he didn't send me my $680 asap. "The agent in charge, named "Jackie Gleason", seems familiar with you," I said. "Have you ever sold him anything? He wants me to fill out your home address. Where do you live?"
That's the last I've heard. I wasted about 6 hours of his time, which was all I could make him pay, and enjoyed myself in the process.

Phone number he used to text me was 586-888-8948, then he called me on 402-370-9043, which, when called, rings to an answering service who pages James to see if he answers. Like a gmail phone number.
Would be curious to know who owns this phone number. Seems crazy that with this kind of cross-referencing, this guy isn't put behind bars by now.

Received a text today from this number for an ad I placed on Craigslist. Said he wanted the item and asked did I used Paypal I told him no cash only. Didn't hear back from him so I google the number and people were saying it was a scam which I already knew. I text him back with all the notes about his scam and I told him I was a cop he never responded back, a real [***]..

Love your ploy with this fool. I did a similar game to him he got very frustrated and mad and in the end didn't want to respond back to me, it actually made my day that I upset this idiot and that I didn't fall for his stupid scam...

he sent me a so called "paypal" payment of $1,080.00 when I was just seeing a dining room table for $200. he wanted me to send him $630 for transport fees. LOL! What a joke. he normally would text me all the time until I let him know that all his info was under investigation and I knew it was a scam. he didn't respond one word yet. smh

Yup! same message sent to me from the same number 586-888-8948, just didnt respond, and blocked his number... some people are stupid!

i am selling a futon and got a response from this number ,and this person insisted i open a paypal account.I called paypal and asked what is the safest way to do a transaction like this.He said, he would pay me what i was asking for through paypal and send his driver to pick up my futon(which i thought was strange )glad i googled this number because after i explained to this number what paypal told me to say and also that two of my neighbors are police officers and they would make sure nothing shady went down at the time of transaction ,i haven't heard back from this person.

Yah...he just texted me with the same shtick as everybody else.  I texted him and said "You're some kind of craigslist scammer, aren't you?"  That was the last I heard from him.
