They called today (4/27) and left a message saying that this was the second attempt to contact me, and that if I did not respond I would face criminal charges.

(Sounded a lot like another call I received the day after Tax Day (4/19) saying that the IRS had filed a lawsuit against me.)

We did not respond to this call.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.  IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government.     Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes.  Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Wish there was a way to catch and prosecute these people.  Calls like this scare the elderly who think this is legitimate.

Recorded message from the "Treasury Dept." regarding a pending lawsuit for income tax fraud.  Female voice stating "his name was Dennis Gray."  Since I knew of this scam I called back the number and got an Indian accented woman calling herself "Victoria Walters" that told me my case would be sent to the County Sheriff's Office and they would handle the subpoenas for the matter.  She hung up when I asked too many legal related questions that were obviously beyond the scope of the scam anwsers.

This robocall said this was my second chance to appear in federal magistrate court. I called the number back and no one answered. I don't think a federal agency would make robocalls and they would certainly answer their phone. There is nothing to indicate the name of the caller on internet. I would rather have someone asking for a donation or making a sales call than a message to scare me. Doesn't no-call-list do ANY good or is that a scam too? Besides this is a NY area code and last time I checked haha the Fed courts are  in Washington D.C. and certainly in my own hometown.

I did call this number back mainly to yell at someone for calling me with a threat. No answer. I hope it's not forwarded to one of those 900 numbers that charges a huge amount per minute. Even when ringing.

I've had several calls from this number and the last call today (which most of the message was cut off), said this was their final attempt and to call 607-304-3136 to "speak to a federal agent".   When I called the number, a gentleman answered, "IRS, this is Gray Stevens".  When he asked what it was regarding, I told him I had a message to call, but I wasn't sure wh. He put me on hold and when he came back on, he stated one of his colleagues had called, then the call was disconnected. I could hear several people talking in the background.
