Debt collector leaving false messages

Looking for my ex.....haven't been with her in Over 6 yrs

I got a call from them.  We worked out a deal to include payments, fixed amount, length of time, etc.  They delivered paperwork to me when asked.  And they would not take the initial payment in check. ?. Hmm, really ?  So I made one payment and closed the bank account, because once they get access the law is on their side.  The rest of the payments could have been made by check.

Today, I got a call with a new collection reference # from a new agent.  They have no record of my previous payment, said agreement or account information.  Ironic or illegal ?

If you really owe the debt & it is real, you should have paid by Bank draft. Yes it costs a few bucks, but it is 100% proof (paper trail) that you paid. Also, record your calls that you offered to pay & they refused payment. Very useful later.
