- MollyYes, I did get a call from this number and they left me a message. Her name was Danielle Thomas and she is claiming that she has a case against me on here desk and I have 48 hours to call her back. If I do not call her back she is going to proceed with the case and have a warrant filed against me and I will be arrested.
WTF, I have NO idea what she is talking about. I belief this is a big scam, they are trying to get information and money off of you.
TOTAL SCAM - C| 1 replyExact same thing. Danielle Thomas saying she will be forced to push forward a case if I don't call her back. She was very rude in her message. I had this happen to me a few years ago as well. A very rude man called saying the exact same thing and that the cops would be showing up to arrest me. I think THEY need to be the ones arrested. Complete scam. Their number is being blocked on my end.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

- Call type: Debt collector
- qwerty replies to davidYou are a lying scumbag scamming shill. Nobody is arrested for debt. YOU however, should be arrested for scamming people out of money that they do not owe.
- Sam| 1 replyI just got out of jail for writing multiple bad checks. I never received any calls but i have visited their office and spoke with danielle thomas and judges about my case. Everything is good now.
- GateKeeper replies to SamYour story doesn't make much sense.
You never received any calls, but went to their office? Where was it? What was the street address, and MOST importantly, how did yo know you were needed there if they never called you?
Who are you claiming Danielle Thomas is? An attorney? Why else would she be working with a judge?
JudgeS? What Judges? What counties? Were there an arrest warrants issued? Any judgments issued?
Some clarification here would be nice.
I think your "I just got out of jail for bad checks" is either a lie, tangential to the story line, or an attempt to try and make people fear that someone might go to jail for not paying these guys.
For those of you reading along, please remember some VERY important things;
-Debt is civil. not criminal. You cannot be arrested for ordinary debt in the United States and Canada. There are no debtors prisons here.
-Companies cannot issue arrest warrants. Only those in the judicial system can issue warrants. They need to be petitioned by attorneys, and signed off by a judge.
-If there were an arrest warrant with your name on it, your local courthouse would have it. Look up the number independently, and call them. Odds are, there is no warrant for you.
-IF THERE WERE, however, no one will EVER call you to tell you they are coming to arrest you, or serve you papers. Process servers only get paid if they deliver your paperwork, and if you hide, they won't get paid, so, they won't tell you they're coming.
-Threats of arrest and putting holds on SSN's, demanding attorney contact information and other things like that are common scare tactics used by "debt collectors" who are trying to collect on a debt they cannot legally collect on. If they COULD legally collect on the debt, they wouldn't have to resort to scare tactics.
-REAL debt collectors will send you (because they are required to, by law) a 'DEBT VALIDATION'. This is sent through the mail (USPS) with a stamp on it (e-mail, fax, texts, carrier pigeon, smoke signals...none of those count) and tell you when you incurred the debt, to whom you owe the original debt, and how to proceed if you don't think you owe the amount, or if your records reflect a different amount. Remember, this is REQUIRED BY LAW to be sent to you within 5 days from initial contact (on the company behalf) DEMAND THEY SEND YOU THIS!!! This will immediately weed out the scammers.

This link takes you to the FTC's website and gives you all the rules debt collectors must follow. It also (at the bottom) provides links to where you can report any debt collector who isn't following the law. - v replies to CTotal scam! And the person thats saying she has been helping is lying!! Same scenario for me. Danielle thomas. Scam scam scam!! I call her back and told her not to call my phone again or my daughters and when i questioned her she hung up.
- V replies to davidLIAR!!! THIS IS NOTHING BUT A SCAM.

- Rebecca| 1 replyI wrote a check for $51.45 in December, 1996,I did not know this check was bad since I never received a bank notice or letter from merchant. In January, 1998 the merchant filed an affidavit against, which was never delivered to me, in February, 1998 a warrant was issued for my arrest, again I was never served with a warrant.I lived in this county for 7 years after charges were filed. On July 26,2014 upon returning home from work I checked my mail and there was an envelope from Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Dept, enclosed was a copy of a 1998 affidavit and a copy of a warrant ordered in 1998. The warrant is not a capias warrant. 18 years has passed and this is the first I have ever heard of this $51.45 check. I just got released from jail in 2013, pay your bad checks guys its not worth it!
- Resident47 replies to RebeccaWhat you fail to grasp, Rebecca-Sam-David, is that the more you spew double talk here the lower your credibility falls. The idea that a merchant or a bank will let a "hot check" problem sit dormant for eighteen years is risible. You would have notice of your alleged problem and have settled it long before Bill Clinton left office. As it is, you can't even keep straight the timeline of your threat testimonial.
Before you come back this month to fog this thread with more dubious "jailed for debt" stories, let's review a pair of similar amicus briefs filed by the Federal Trade Commission in August 1996 and May 1997, bookending the time you allegedly bounced a penny-ante check which sent you to jail. The two appellate cases each concerned third party collection of dishonored checks written by consumers. The FTC's arguments thoroughly resolved the question of FDCPA application.
https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/files/docum ... nc./charles.pdf
https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/files/docum ... e-p.c./snow.pdf
The briefs confirm that the FDCPA was written to cover "hot checks": [quote] The Report of the House Banking Committee accompanying H.R. 5294, the version of the FDCPA passed by the House of Representatives, makes clear that the drafters had in mind the collection of dishonored checks when they framed the bill, and did not intend to limit the meaning of "debt" to obligations arising from extensions of "credit." .... Later, in describing the meaning of "debt," the House Report stated that "the committee intends that the term 'debt' include consumer obligations paid by check or other non-credit consumer obligations," [end quote]
We also learn that the FTC has taken seriously this broader definition of "debt" from the start: "In performing their statutory responsibilities under the FDCPA, the Federal Trade Commission and its staff have consistently and unvaryingly concluded from the Act's inception that it covers collection of dishonored checks. In the Act’s early years, the Commission pursued suits and obtained judgments for civil penalties against firms that allegedly violated the FDCPA in collecting on dishonored checks."
That commitment has continued as recently as 2014, through FTC beatdowns of entire gangs of Buffalo Bullies who terrorized people with false claims of "check fraud" and imminent arrest.
At FTC’s Request, Court Halts Debt Collector’s Allegedly Deceptive and Abusive Practices, Freezes Assets [Federal Check Processing and other soundalike companies]

Court Halts Debt Collector’s Operations, Freezes Assets [National Check Registry, eCapital Services, et al]
https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-release ... -freezes-assets
The FTC, CFPB, attorneys general, and private citizens can all take these fiends to court and win for a simple reason. A dishonored check submitted by a consumer for a "personal, family, or household" purpose is a "debt" under the FDCPA umbrella. The FDCPA prohibits any talk of equating consumer debt with criminal penalties or police action or imprisonment. The "jail for debt" threats are garbage and illegal, end paragraph.
Let's please not see any more tripe about your affidavits and arrest warrants or how some benevolent angel from an unnamed collection agency saved you from a jail term. You and I both know that released prisoners don't go running the same day to complaint sites to confess their deplorable financial management. Just drop the act and find a real job, would you?
