- T GillJust received a call from them too and have also been receiving calls from 269-768-2624 which is supposedly another SCAM number trying to get you to verify your credit card number. Recently I placed quite a few orders through Amazon, so that may have something to do with recently receiving these phone calls.....

yesterday got a call from 269-768-2624 like many others reported.
Didn't answer either. Just added them to a contact with a "silent" ringer on my cell.
Kinda creepy that many others are getting calls from the same two totally different numbers.
Saw a post for the 269-768-2624 number yesterday that suggested you answer future calls from these numbers with: "Hello...Los Angeles Police Department, may I help you"
Might just do that for fun next time they call :o) - retribution| 3 repliesmy wife has be getting calls from the same number multiple times when she answers and questions the they hang up... I answered and told them I worked for the California state credit card fraud and they number has been traced... they hung up and never called back!
- Denise replies to retribution| 2 repliesI got a call from this number also. They told me they will be mailing me $120 in gas cards because of a rewards program I am in with Visa. They said I used my visa at a qualifying company. They are quick talkers and they bounced me around from a couple of different people verifying my information. They had my mailing address and the last four of the credit card. They did not ask for the security number or my SS number so I wasn't too alarmed. As soon as I hung up with them I called Visa and the customer service guy I spoke to said it does not sound like any of the promotions they have going on with any of their affiliates. He said he is going to send me a new card with a new number on it and just keep an eye out online to make sure no purchases are being made. He believes that the scam part comes into play when I receive the gift cards in the mail and have to call to activate them. That's when they will get the info they need. Instead he advised me that when I receive the package in the mail to bring it in directly to the bank branch (it's a wells fargo visa) and they will follow up with a fraud investigation.
Unfortunately I was not as quick thinking as many of you were when they called me but hopefully my stupidity will help them with a fraud investigation - LEB FloridaFirstly, what irritates me the most is that I have a private number and call block on my phone and these calls still come through! I do realize that when I order something they ask for your home number or the order can not be place. I also do realize that some companies buy numbers from organizations that have listings from people who order. But, this particular call (I don't normally answer numbers I don't recognize but to my misfortune, today I did) was not only unethical, but the caller was downright pushy. They were supposedly sending me $150.00 gas card to use for free. I would have 30 days to look over this "Smart Shopper" plan and if I chose not to join for $29.95 (or something like that) I would just call the 1-800 number and cancel but keep the gas card for free. I asked him if I don't call back the 1-800 number even though I don't want the program would they automatically charge me anyway, and he said "Yes". I told him I wasn't interested and don't bother mailing it to me. He proceeded to continue reading his script as fast as he could while I was yelling in the phone for him to stop and listen to me to canx. He was very rude by ignoring me after he heard me saying not to send it. It was unethical, rude, and I am not going to stand for this type of "business" any more. I am at the point were I am going to contact the attorney general's office and the better business bureau. I have had to do this twice this year so far! This is getting out of hand and yet it is allowed. It is all about the almighty "buck". Is this is what our country is all about now? I bet this doesn't happen to our congressmen. You think? Sell everyone's number on this list.....oh, except these. I guess I am not important enough to have my privacy. Time to call our congressmen people. Geez!

- TJIt is a phishing scam. I finally answered just to find out who it is. The woman kept going on her script even though I kept saying I do not participate in anything I have to opt out of. I told her this at least 5 times and finally yelled several times that she is not listening to me. Then she hung up. The general statement of it being part of your Visa card is a clever cover. Anyone with a check card has one so the odds are good people will initially think they are legitimate. If you call the number back they are careful not to give a company name on the message.
