Claimed to be American Directions Research, but with phone number spoofing these days there's no way to be sure, so I hung up and blocked the number. Any legitimate survey company ought to realize by now that postal mail is the only way to conduct polls these days.

Mail costs money and time.  You won't see any polls in the mail in the future since telephone calls pretty much cost nothing.

They're continuing to call (always an Indian call center), from several different numbers, all spoofed, so I've come to the conclusion that's it's not really American Directions Research calling.

After further calls I'm pretty sure they're actually identifying themselves as "American Directives" (rather than American Directions). It is hard to be certain with the heavy Indian accents but I'm now fairly confident it's "directives".
They may be deliberately trying to get people to confuse them with American Directions or they may be just another scam outfit whose callers have poor enunciation.

I'm not so sure. I still get plenty of paper junk mail every single day. I would expect legitimate pollsters to have at least as much money in their budget as some of the half-baked outfits that send me printed junk daily.
