- jtThis number 620 662 1492 is from Port Folio Recovery. They are trying to collect money from me on a vehicle they re possessed and sold at auction. Please be aware that they have 30 or 40 numbers they call from. Their main office is in Virginia. But, they have tried to call me from Jackson, TN and somewhere in Illinois and other places. I do not answer the phone unless I know who is calling. I leave my ringer off. That way, I don't get bothered so much. I don't get alot of phone calls any way. Don't have alot of family. I always look up phone numbers on Google to see who is calling. I refuse to answer the phone to all these 800 numbers because they are debt collectors. I am on disability now and they cannot garnish anyone's disability check. The only 3 agencies that can garnish a Government check are: 1). I.R.S. 2). for student loans and 3). for child support. So, I refuse to answer the phone unless I know who is calling. I am not going to get in a shouting match with anyone. And, also, they cannot call your neighbors. This compnay tried to call a neighbor of mine and I dismissied it. It is against the law for them to call your next door neighbor. They use a reverse directory lookups with street names and numbers to see who is near you with a landline phone. But, these days, most people have cell phones which are not referenced in these cross reference directories (thank goodness).
Take care everyone. jt- Call type: Debt collector
- T&MCalled them back and said you have the wrong number, they claim they removed the number and were sorry to bother us. They called a biz looking for someone who never worked here.
They need to be closed down, all the colections companys are getting carried away! We dont owe anyone anything yet get 3-5 calls a day from a few dif companys...what a waste of our time.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery Associates

- DutchThere are phone message bombs you can use if you understand the technology or want to go to the expense.
I like the whistle trick. Using very loud high pitch personal safety whistle, accept the call (there is generally a pause before the caller speaks), as soon as the caller begins to speak or you think is about to, lay into the whistle as loud and long as you can. If you can, blow until you hear them hang-up or drop the phone.
It is a federal offense to use profanity on the phone and they won't abide by the Fair Credit Act and won't take NO for an answer. The mentality of a debt collector wants to engage the so-called debtor into a frenzy. I actually works to the agency's benefit.
Anyway, a few offensive whistle blows in the ear and the calls will slow down if not stop. Do not say a word or laugh - just blow the whistle.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery - PRA

- charlieDebt Collector SCUM! They have several numbers they call from and I also want to alert all of you to a new tactic these bottom feeders are using. anonymous text messages and emails!! I began getting very disturbing text messages from an "unverified sender" earlier this month. You can't reply to the message or see the number it comes from. These messages are crude and can get personal. At first i thought it was someone who had a bone to pick with me, but the more of them i got i realized that most of the information they spout off is public record and one of them even mentions AMEX specifically. Another reason I believe the debt collectors are behind them is that they always come about a week apart and usually between 9 am and 2 pm. As if they may be on some type of schedule.

- Annoyed in ChicagoIt is the scum suckers otherwise known as Portfolio Recovery Associates. They have many numbers and hire desperate people with the promise if you can be rude and ruthless, you can become the next CEO of our company. They don't care that a vast majority of the employees are the same people they are trying to collect from. That is no joke. They are one step above hiring convicts. Don't ever give them any information. They are unethical and taking advantage of a bad economy. Yes, you should pay your debts. But I am against 3rd party collections. They are selling debt like bonds now. I hope we can get our congress to really pass legislation that make credit card or banks responsible to collect their own debt. They don't because banks and credit cards don't want to get sued and hurt their customer service scores. They gave you the credit, they should be responsible to collect it. Until then, just don't answer the call. Get select call reject on your phone. Comcast let's you block up to 12 phone numbers and forward phone numbers. I am now forwarding these call to the FTC, let's see if they just hang up on them. Maybe after a while the FTC will research this company and begin to fine them. OH wait, the are huge campaign donors to many members of congress. What a screwed up system of government we have in this country.

Strong arm is an understatement.
I told the guy to take an "aeronautical fornication at a reciprocating, perforated pastry."
He was silent... said "Huh?" and hung up.

- suni62This is what I do because I can only put in about 4 numbers to block on my cell phone. I have been getting calls from so many numbers. Some ding bat gave my phone number out. First of all I don't answer any number I don't know. If they leave me a msg great; if not oh well. Then I call the number back from work to see if I can figure it out or I google the number and see what I can find out. Then I add the number to my cell phone contact list and name it DO NOT ANSWER. Then eventually the calls stop. So far they seem to be just between 8-5. Nothing at night. Hope this helps.
