Showed as a "forwarded" call on CID. Said they were from American Express, and needed to speak with M***** M*****. Coincidentally, this is the name of a woman my brother dated over a decade ago, whom I have since had no contact with. Not have I personally ever had an Am Ex card. Scam!

Caller ID was "Americanexpress" - red flag #1, should have been "American Express."  Caller had my name and claimed they have been trying to collect on my "Every Day Card" - red flag #2, I don't have one.  Haven't used Amex or taken Amex at my business since 1997.  Says they are in final collections for $3,000 and have been repeatedly trying to contact me by mail, email and by phone - red flag #3, no they haven't.  Told me for $21,000 they could clear up the issue and preserve my credit - red flag #4, plain stupidity.  To make myself feel better, I asked her if she was afraid she would go to jail.  I told her she was a POS scammer and that there was no way she was from AMEX.  She said "OK" and hung up.
