- RogerForeign accent guy called claiming to be from the IRS. Seemed to be street noise in the background. He didn't even know whom he was calling! Wrong number. What an idiot scammer!
- Caller: Claimed to be IRS
- Becky BankesterGot a call on my cell and they left a message. Said he was Office David Marshall from the Baldwin County Police Department and there was a Federal Warrant out for me & my property by IRS Office Lois Brown. I needed to surrender immediately to any police office or call 646-340-4218 to straighten this out. There is no such Officer or even the name of the agency but somehow they were able to spoof the actual Baldwin County Sheriff's Department phone number as the Caller ID. Called my Sheriff's office and this is a scam!
- Caller: Scam claiming to be Police & IRS
- IrkedMissed a call. Called back and *call went through* (seriously?). Accent (Pakistani accent?)-enhanced person claimed to be IRS; I am prior IRS so I knew he was all wrong. Then he clamed to be al Quaeda/Taliban. Said I had a $5000 price on my head. (No one but my dogs, chins and God values my life that highly, so I knew that was wrong, too. But I digress). I told him he'd gotten a very good rate; he told me it was a special deal for a close friend of a friend (not making this up). He tried to confirm my address then asked me if I lived alone (still not making this up). I told him I lived with a unit of Marines and, given my experience in Irag, we'd be sending his assassin buddy back in a bag. Then he said they were going to blow up my house. At which point I greeted him in Arabic and he hung up. Then I called the FBI, who told me this was a known scammer and referred me to the FTC (FCC?). F?C identified as known scammer leveraging NY number from outside US. I mentioned that as a telecomm professional, the telecomm owning the number can be identified; gov't can work with the telecomm to id the call source, and work from there. Surely there are better things crank callers can do with their time....
- Caller: "IRS" / "al Quaeda/Taliban"
- Call type: Telemarketer
- IRSaftermeSome idiot calling from an internet cafe in some who-knows-where spot claiming to be IRS after my wife, who isn't a US citizen, and isn't living in the US. We are forwarding the number to an overseas location, just like he is in the scam. Scary that he has her first name and old number though...
- Call type: Debt collector
- ScamExtortion call! Said he was from the IRS. Wanted me to call back
- NickCalled our office as IRS/Tax investigation unit. Said they we are being investigated. I asked why the NY division was calling us in Oklahoma and he said the police would be coming to our building. I asked which police department since we work with them and he then said he was Al Qaeda and a terrorist and they were going to bomb our building and blow up our hospital. Spoke to local police department, they said they get complaints about this number nearly every day. The police officer said he's called them directly and they complained that he was harassing them. I'm surprised they haven't been arrested.
- Geoff replies to TonyI love the fact that these goat-banging [***] come to this country and claim to be "Dan Smith", "Mark Jones", or other Anglo names then can't speak a word of English comprehensively. Are there actually people in this country who think that law enforcement is going to give them a ring and let them know they're under arrest??? God! Can we just close our borders already?
- GeoffYou know what the worst part of this ridiculous scam is? IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MANY OF US REPORT THIS CRAP TO THE GOVERNMENT, IT JUST KEEPS HAPPENING OVER AND OVER!!!
The agencies of the Government, sworn to protect us from such scams, have more important things to do than actually go after these pieces of horse crap, so it just keeps on happening.- Caller: IRS
- Tomy replies to DDI just received the call, I called to the IRS and they told me that this person is an scam. Do not answer this call.
