called my cell phone, don't recognize the number, did not leave message

Call my cellphone at 11:47am on 01/05/2009.  I did not answer it because I am at work and I didn't recognize the number.

Recieved a call from this number at 2:46pm eastern time. Did not answer. Did not leave message. Area code is NYC.

Received a call from this number. They did leave a message.

Got a call couldnt answer, called it back from work and it just said all curcits are busy.

Received a call from this number on 1/5/09 at 9:57 am. Was unable to answer due to the fact that I was working. Caller did not leave message.

Got a call from this number at 11:26 am on January 7, 2009. Was unable to answer because I was on the other line. Caller didn't leave a message. I called back and the answering service said it was an employment verification service.

I got a call and it said it was in reference to job application - They never came on  line and I hung up after 10 minutes.

Just received a call and found this site looking up the number.  No message left.

If this is an employment verification service, I know my son is looking for a job, so maybe it was in response to that.

I just called them back and the message was that this was in response to a job application I recently completed.  I have not applied for a job recently, so I just hung up.

This number also called my cell phone around 12:20pm today, and I don't answer numbers if I don't recognize them.

It's most likely just someone phishing for information.

Also, that area code is coming from New York City, according to google.

received a call on 1/8/09 @ 2:22pm, couldn't answer, I'm at work, and didn't recognize the number. no message was left, and I didnt' try calling it back.

got a call from this number, and I have a friend that is a P.I.  He researched it through a database, it is a repo company.  They lie about the employement verification as a cover.  If they call you on a land line, it is to either to harass you about an item they have been hired to repo, or to see where you work or are living.  If they call your cell, they are pinging it to determine which cell tower you are closest to.  Don't trust them, give them any info, or call back and stay on hold (they are tracing while you hold to triangulate your cell signal - much like a land line trace).

I also got a call from this number with no voice mail.

Juts found out who this is. These people are scammers who get your info when you apply for jobs.I found this on a site:(cut n pasted, not my words)I also hear they get info. from CareerBuilder and other resume services. Here is some of what I found:

It is a company called Employment Select (http://employmentselectcareers.com/).  They asked me about a job I applied for via CraigsList and wanted to verify information for the employer.  They said that after they verified the information they would pass my information along to the employer for the next stage to the application process. It seems like a scam to me... Like they're just trying to collect more information to sell off to telemarketers.

Yeah I have been applying for jobs like crazy and got this phone call today..BEWARE

I received a call with no message- I looked up the number and I also just applied for jobs on line.

Called me and nobody spoke for about 30 seconds then a recording said "We are calling in regard to a job application you recently filled out. Stay on the line and one of our representatives will be with you shortly. Please be near a computer with Internet access and we will be with you shortly to verify your application." Then in about 10 seconds the call was terminated.

I also received a call to my cell phone this morning at 9:13 am - but no one left a message.  Thanks to everyone for posting your comments.  Glad I did not return the call as they are being made from Manhattan, NY.
