i think this number is running a scam.  several text messages from this number, wanting me to send money.

Had a "still available?" txt from this number regarding an item for sale on Craigslist. Decided to check the number as the "still available?" query is popular amongst the email scamming set.

WHO from New York will want to buy a Crappy 1000 dollars car from California and expect it to be shipped. This number is a scams.

Yes same experience.  "still available" wants to buy my car without even seeing it and pay through pay pal.

What kind of scam is it? got the same message for my post asking if its "still available"

Email/Text Scam  for Craigs List posts. I hate they waste my time.  I tell them to try harder it's getting ridiculous.

got the same type of email regarding my car for sale on craigslist.  says satellite is down so can't call, but will email.

Scammer saying : "Catherine is my name, do you still have your posted craigslist item for sale?

Add me to the list to. Yes same experience.  "Text ask if still available" wants to buy my car without even seeing it and pay through pay pal or send a cashier check, bank transfer & wants account numbers. Haha. I get this crap every time I list something on Craigslist.

Same thing happened to me.  Very convincing !  And of course a scam !

Number texted me about motorcycle for sale on craigslist, asking me what my bottom line was, then said they were 'catherine'. Paying through paypal, and would have an agent pick it up.  Very convincing until I googled the area code, and number.  Got my hopes up to piss me off.

Same thing. "Still available?" text.  Wanted to purchase sight unseen and would only do PayPal.  I said cash only and pushed for PayPal.

Same scam, received text wants to buy 12 piece dining set in Nashville sight unseen asking if it is still available. What the.....?

got a call from 646-580-1729 wanting a truck that I put on Craigslist for sale about an hour ago.  They didn't ask questions and wanted to pay through paypal.  The area code is a New York number.  I told them I had never used paypay and I would have to have cash.  They texted back and told me they hoped I wouldn't mind to get a paypal account, and began to tell me how easy and safe it was.  I told them "I do mind.  I will NOT get a paypal acct.  I will sell for cash or I won't sell at all.  Down here in the south people still do things that way."

Same scam from 646-580-1729. I posted furniture for sale on Craigslist and they insisted we receive payment through PayPal? Was very persistent when I refused PayPal and insisted on cash. All communication stopped!

Same situation as previous have stated. Posted an ad on craigslist. Received a few emails asking legitimate questions. Then they requested paypal and said they would send extra to pay for shipping. Received an email from "paypal" saying it had been paid but would not be posted into my account until the shipping was paid for, and not to call. Two days later, received 3 phone calls from this number with no message.

Here is how the "PayPal Scam" works:

Says they will buy the item and will pay extra to cover charges by his shipping agent.
Says he will PayPal the funds and instruct you to send the extra money via wire transfer or pre-paid card to the agent.
He then sends you a fake PayPal deposit notice email, spoofing the official PayPal notice, that says the money has been put into your account.
You, thinking PayPal has your money, go ahead with the wire/prepaid transfer to the shipping agent, who is really the scammer.
After that, you then find out there was no money transferred to PayPal and are out the money your wired.


Here is how a "Craigslist Scam" or any other "I will send you a check for more than you asked" scam works:

He pays for the item + extra funds to cover his shipping agent costs with a bank draft or cashiers check.
He sends you a check, tells you to cash it and send the extra money to his shipping agent via wire transfer or prepaid card.
You cash/deposit check and wire/prepaid the funds to the agent.
Later, the check bounces as it was counterfeit. The money you sent to the agent, who is really the scammer, is unrecoverable due to it being wire transferred/prepaid card.
You are out money and now run the risk of being arrested for passing a counterfeit check.

I was just about to make the payment when i had this little problem with the picking up,I got an email from my agent stating that funds for shipping are needed to be paid in full before they come for pick up..i thought i included  that in my previous email that you will help to pay  shipping fees which  will be now be  included in the payment that is coming to your PayPal account .they  said they  won't come and pick up unless i pay them  the agent commission fee first in order to be able to schedule a pick up time ,and my pick up agent head quarters is in New Orleans and all commission payments made for pick up of shipment from anywhere in the world is sent to their head quarters in New Orleans  and the only form of payment they accept is western union money transfer and i tried to pay online but i will need a credit card which i didn't bring along, and there is no post office, i will include  $2,000 which they charged to pick it up (1st class delivery), to the payments i will send through PayPal. After i have made the payments and it has been confirmed by PayPal you will receive a confirmation mail from them, immediately you receive
the confirmation i want you to go and send the $2,000 to my pick up agent through western union money transfer, the western union money
transfer can be made at a western union office near to you,there is always a western union agent in most western union or online at
www.westernunion.com .I will be making the payments shortly and will email you as soon as it has been done.
