Craigslist scammer. Received the exact message as Ruben after I posted an ad seeking a subleaser for my apt.

scammer... claiming to move to az to get masters deg. named changed from marry to mary to Keith.... Here's the message i got a couple times:

I hadn't heard from them in a week, then today all of a sudden. I get an email saying the check was sent to me. I get home sure enough there is a package in the mail. With a check for almost $4,000. I tried calling this "Gail" but they didn't reply.

My question is, what do THEY get from sending a fake check if I'm the one depositing it?

We never gave them our information. Cuz as soon as i am asked name address etc it's a no way. They try to steal your identity in order to take the fraud further. here was the ad i got:

information and I'll have it forwarded to my Dad to issue out payment
to you on time. I really appreciate that you are ready to accept me as
roommate,I really don't Skype or do social network stuff,that was the
way my brother was killed through a friend on Facebook. I will like
