- BeingScammed08/18/2011: A alleged law firm/police department claiming that I took out a loan, which I did NOT, and now am being sued for a few thousand, but will be able to settle out of court for only $535. They have all of my personal information, including social security number, bank account number, address, email address, driver license number and so on. Today was their first call, but I since there will be more to follow as I don't plan to pay them anything under this allegation of taking out loan. It is a man with a very thick Indian. He said his name was Kevin Carter. His contact number is 646 808 3447. His fax number is 206 338 6145. He gave me my case number and a format for a payment authorization letter to be fax if decided to settle out of court. Along with the fax, he asked that I include a copy of my photo ID.
I plan to alert my bank and my local police department.

DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by
DEA Special Agent Impersonators
The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.
The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies. The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine. In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas. If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property. Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.
Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law. The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.
The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet. It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met. And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA. By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law. In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.
Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.

I received several calls from this number also, but did not answer. They did not leave a message. I have been flooded with SCAM CALLS for the last 6-8 months, and finally decided not to answer the phone if I am home. Most of them do not leave a message. Based on my research there are almost more thieves out there then there are honest people. Morals have gone into the dumpster. These thieves zone in on Seniors because they are more trusting, based on the way we were raised, and therefore believe what the caller is saying to be the truth. My advice is, do not answer the phone unless you know the caller. These people do not work for a living, and therefore have all the time to try and STEAL, by threatening you and/or sucking you into believing you have won $$$$.... - ReporterReceived call... Caller left no message...
- SusanI received a call from this number (646.808.3447) while I was in the shower. I'm so sorry that I wasn't available to answer the call, since I've decided to string these scammers along by acting afraid ("Oh, dear! What can I do?"), and then, after getting their hopes up ... believing that they've got a sucker on the line who is taking their bait ... start laughing in their faces and telling them to take a long walk off of a short pier (with a lot of expletives thrown in for good measure)!
- OldVetFrequent calls, never leaves a message. I don't pick up calls if I don't recognize Caller ID. Scamster rubbish.
- gibson 10Did not answer----do not know number or anybody in new york, ny

- Missy| 1 replyWe received a call and some man mumbled something into the receiver. We, of course, did not pick up because we knew we did not know this caller. The most wonderful and hilarious thing about our voice mail is that our grandmother made the recording and she screams the message into the phone(she is hard of hearing) and that is enough for anyone to hang up immediately; for the rest of her voice message can not be understood. We decided to leave it like that because anyone who is legit knows who recorded the message!!! I will now report this caller to the DO NOT CALL Government website for complaints.
- JohnClaim to be returning my call about an ad on TV about a back brace. Since that was not true I assumed everything else was untrue an nothing more than a scam.
