I got a call on Saturday while I was out, and called them back. It's the typical utility scam -  "Get a 15% rebate on your gas an electric bill".  They even answered the phone as "New York State Electric And Gas"  but I believe have no affiliation with them - they even asked me who my electric provider was;  which NYSEG would obviously know without asking me.

Receiving multiple calls from this number; all throughout the day and into evening hours, 8am to 8-9pm EST. They leave no message. Caller ID states from New York, NY. Called this number back and there is nothing--just dead air, not even a ring. I agree with "Jim"; if this were NYSEG they would have an after hours message, and they always identify themselves in a call, and they leave a message. Calls did not start until the holiday season. Will definitely assume its a scam, even though call always shows up as New York, NY and number 646-854-6970.  Be alert, and happy holidays!

Got another call today from them - didn't answer. Their caller ID has changed -  instead of NYEG above the number, it shows as "Unknown" now.  

BTW, I called New York State Electric and Gas - I was informed this entity has NO affiliation with NYSEG. They actually call themselves New York Electric and Gas - a subtle variation on the NYSEG name. I might have misheard it myself when I called them back on Saturday.  The "confusion" benefits the marketing company for obvious reasons.  

The NYSEG rep told me that NYSEG unsuccessfully sued this company to change their name, and that it was easily confused with NYSEG's.  It even threw me,  and I have worked for a subcontractor to NYSEG in years past.  

Again, a telemarketing company with NO affiliation with NYSEG.  Be aware.  

Yeah same here guys.  These pricks also keep calling me, anywhere between 8am-9pm.  THEY ARE SCAMMERS!  THEY WANT YOU TO TELL THEM YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT INFO -, EVEN YOUR BANK CARD NUMBER!  No professional energy company would do that.  I guess i'll just cross my eyes and say "Okay."  Yeah right!

But I just keep ****ing with them, you know, using one of those soundboard machines.  The Arnold swarzenegger one rocks!!  :)

So I'm not getting a rebate check?

They call me 3 times a day everyday sooooo, 1-646-854-6970. If you want to call them back every 5 minutes like I did be sure to put the #1 first before the number.  I literally kept calling .  They finally starting hanging up on me.  I called them several inappropriate names.  Told them to lose my phone number.  They must have caller ID cause they started to call me by name when I kept calling. After I continued to irritate them they finally stopped calling me!

They called and left no message.  I tried call hi ng back nothing but dead air.  Scan Scam Scam!!

1st they called my job implying they were the power company. When asked what it was about I was told we would be shut off in 30 to 45 min. They wanted credit card info to avoid disconnect. I told him he was out of his mind and hung up. The boss pays his bills or he wouldn't be here for 40 yrs.
Now they're calling my house Dec.26,27, 29,30 twice, Jan. 12,15. Caller ID says NYGE. No message. My NYSEG bill is paid too. It's just a scam to get financial info. NYSEG doesn't make this type of call. If your bill isn't paid they will send a shutoff notice in the mail. That's all.

The caller ID for the number noted (646-854-6970) came up as NYGE which isn't the same acronym that New York State Eelectric and Gas uses, and the phone number isn't their Customer Service number as shown through a Google search, so I'm inclined to agree that they're likely not directly part of the utility company, and especially since they'd asked which service company provides your utilities, lol.

They keep calling here too and trying to get account info! How do you get them to stop calling?

Caller ID says NYEG. They call several times a day for a week now.  They SAY they are NYSEG and need to speak to the person responsible for the utilities.  
NYSEG does not even serve my town. I keep telling them to quit calling me.  
They are VERY rude and won't stop calling.

answered the phone and person on the other end promised a rebate of 12%. when i googled the phone number i discovered this is a scam.

This number shows up on my caller id as NYGE multiple times a day, every day,  for at least a month. I don't use my home phone much, so the ringer is off and these calls don't bother me until I look at my call log and see how often the number shows up. I'm so glad they don't bother to leave a message every time,  they would fill my voice mail up pretty fast.
