Refusal to give company information upon request is a VIOLATION of the FDCPA.  They have 5 days to MAIL proof of the debt (don't hold your breath!) when requested.  Accept nothing else.  The only OFFICIAL notification is a written document that is mailed (post office) to you giving their company name & address, original creditor, dates, amounts, etc.

The company isn't a scam they do have aggressive representatives that work there due to the type of work that they do, I honestly don't agree with their aggressiveness but anyway I had my family attorney and bankruptcy attorney  give them a call and both stated the company is "REAL" and not a scam. They are not a collection agency, they are one step up from collections when a financial lender's debt (your debt) has exhausted it's collection phase and they decide they want to take the issue into an arbitration process they file it with a mediation dept. The purpose of the mediation dept. is to give you one last chance to take of the matter voluntarily by eliminating most of the charges, interest, and penalties (since you made a small payment on it before it went into collections) before the lender tries to pursue you of the collection balance which is usually $1000's!  You will receive a RELEASE LETTER after you pay what you owe signed by an official....it is LEGIT PUBLICATION....Hope that helped

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Another bottom feeder trying to collect on a made up debt. They would not give the name of their company, accused me a bank fraud and threatened prosecution.  When I refused to verify the last four digits of my social security number, things got ugly! Go find a real job and stop trying to collect on bogus debts. And... when I hung up, he had the nerve to call me back to threaten me once again!
