called and told me because I had a good relationship with the government and I pay my taxes on time the government wants to give me $7000 and I don't have to pay it back. Then he wants to know if I would give him my back account # for direct deposit or my address for western union. When I asked him why he didn't already have this information he hung up

I just received that same call for the same 7K scam.  I played along for a while.  Having return fun.  Of course they wanted to give me my grant money via bank, debit card or credit card.  Ya right, give them the numbers and you just got wiped out.  He ended the call telling me I was an MF and he didn't give a damn.  At least, I kept him from calling someone else during this scam attempt.

My dad got a call from this number on a land line. They offered $7000 grant that he didn't have to pay back (duh, that's a grant). He gave my dad another number to call 203-302-5994 (Bridgeport, CT) & a reference number AB007 (or something like that) that he needed to call to get the $.

I checked on the 676 number, it is not an area code in Northern America, but it is the country code for the Pacific Island of Tonga.

Consumer affairs already is aware of this scam.  If I knew it wouldn't cost a few thousand dollars to call that Bridgeport Connecticut exchange, I'd call and mess with them.

I am getting the same as some of the people above.  I am getting several calls a day from this number and I will not pick up.  Of course, they leave no message.

Female claiming to be with the US Government. Speaks heavily accented English- did not sound Indian at all.

These idiots made the mistake of calling me today. The person who I couldn't understand very well repeated something about me getting $7000.00 dollars or something about gold and jewelry. I just laughed and said Yeah right, take me off the calling list. And then I hung up on him. These idiots call thinking that we don't know the difference between what is real and what's not. This is just another scam. Its tax refund time and all the scammers want your money. The phone number was 676-788-7878. Please read the other comments left and don't call them back. They said something about being from the Federal Reserve also. I believe if the Federal Reserve needed to contact you they would do it through mail not phone calls.

I just got a call from this number. When I told him I knew it was a scam he started cussing me out. I hung up in him.

This dude got crappy with me when I told him that the probability of the US Treasury Dept was going to give me $7000 was about nil.  He said he was going to come to my house and sexually assault members of my family.  I told him to come on over so I could introduce him to my friend Sam Colt.... he didn't get it.

Called and said a bunch of stuff I couldn't understand and I said WHAT? Said he was in Washington D.C. . How was I? Said  I was good abut didn't want him calling my cell phone and he hung  u[p on mr.

saying they r from the department of treasury n Washington D.C., says u have been randomly selected to receive $8000.00.then the want your bank account number r credit card number...they even said this is not a scam...has been reported to jones county Mississippi sheriff department

Rec'd 2 calls from this number today.  I did not answer because I don't recognize the #, they did not leave a message.  Now I see this is another scam.  (Second scamming # I've rec'd calls from just this week!)  I've since blocked the phone #.

Yep got the same call I told him I was going to report him to the FBI for impersonating a federal official (He told me he worked for the US government). Went downhill from there.

I have called every moment of this phone number, I want it to stop, it really perturvador.

This Borat-sounding jerk tried to tell me I qualify for $8k cash and all i have to do is hang up and call another number.  He gave me a confirmation number which I read back to him as "Thisisascam" he got very angry, told me to hold my tongue, when I said I wouldn't, he told me to stick my finger in my [***].  Stay classy, phone scammers.,

Called me saying that his group selected me to recieve a large amount of money and that he wanted to send it to me.  Right out of my sleep... I could tell by his accent (Indian? or Mexican? or something... no English) he was full of [***]... foreign country scam artist.  Most have gotten my phone number off the internet.  Not a chance...

I blocked another phone number and called and it left a message:  "No need to dial a 1 first..."  it's a different area code ... yeah I do have to dial 1.  How do these b@stards get these untraceable phone numbers?

Scam... Needs to be investigated and telemarketer needs to go to jail.

the 676 is close enough to a local area code that I actually answered it. The man could hardly speak English. I just started laughing and he hung up right away. Need to warn my teenagers not to hit "return call" if they get hit with this!

Yes I just spoke to them and played along. Then I gave him my ex girlfriends debit card numbers that I had saved in a file somewhere. Kill two birds with one stone.

I got the same message and then when I asked to speak to someone who speaks better English, the dude told me to go screw myself.
