I work in a call center and they two different people called for one of our associates.  Ms. Monroe and Mr. Milton, claiming he is an attorney.  He asked me out a couple of times an said I had a nice voice.  I asked what the call was in reference to and he said due to the legality of the matter he could not discuss anything.  I asked if his call was related to a company matter and he said it could be.  I advised him that he was giving political answers and did not directly give an answer to any question I asked.  He then threatened: Advise him to call me no later than noon today.  His number is 1.800.713.7780 extension 314. He said "I sugguest that he call me back immediately".

Well i didn't do anything because of everything I’ve read that collection law firms can't do anything to you. Now I’ve had personal property seized, money taken out of my paycheck, and my entire life turned upside down...Don't mess with these guys!!!!! If they call you and offer you a good deal TAKE IT!!! This collection law firm WILL sue you if you don’t pay…

    Annoyed
Keep details about final notice of collection and going to pursue legal actions.  Yet, each time they realize that they have the wrong number and agree to remove the number from the list.  Shortly thereafter, they have an electronic call to ring our number.  The final annoying event is when you inform them of intention to file a harrassment claim, then they immediately hang up the form.

Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that this is in fact a legit law firm. I ignored the letters and the phone calls, hoping they would stop calling, and the next thing I knew, I'm being sued for the money plus court costs!!! The debt I owed is legitimate, and I feel terrible for not paying for it, but fell on hard times and fell behind on everything.  Use your own judgement...is it cheaper to ignore,or cheaper to be sued?

I keep receiving calls for a "Brian Johnson" from various places including Riexinger & Associates. I usually let the answering maching pick it up, but I have been answering other 1-800 numbers and explaining that there is no "Brian Johnson" here. I further tell them that if they reverse look up MY phone number they will see that the phone number is listed for my name. So I called back Riexinger & Ass. and politely told them to stop calling my house and hopefully, they will. They were polite to me.

It's not very smart to ignore a debt collection lawfirm. Don't make the mistake of not responding, Riexinger and Associates files thousands of lawsuits per month in GA as well as hundreads of garnishments and bank levy's monthly. The people there are actually easy to work with, but if you avoid them they will sue you, they will obtain a judgment against you, and they will garnish your wages.

Hey "Stacy" why don't you get a real job instead of trying to shake down people who don't owe anything? You can't file suit on debt that is past statute of limitations, you can't file suit on debt that was settled by bankruptcy or otherwise.

Your threats are impotent and invalid.

Also, you CANNOT garnish ANYONE'S wages. The only person who can garnish wages is the government or a judge. YOURE A BOTTOM FEEDING LIAR.

I never advised that you could file suit or a garnishment on a bankruptcy debt, or a debt out of statue.I simply stated the fact that Riexinger and Associates does sue thousands of debts per month, and they garnish hundreads of people per month. That's no lie, if you dont believe me check Dekalb counties website. It's public information. If you want to avoid being sued stop being a deab beat and pay what you owe.

These idiots should be disbarred, in my opinion. They called my number looking for a deadbeat that had my phone number four years ago. I filed a complaint against them with the State Bar of Georgia when they gave me a bad attitude even after I informed them they had the wrong guy.  You may or may not want to do the same.  Here is a copy of my letter:

Re: Complaint against Riexinger & Assoc.
    Gentlemen:
At 6:11 p.m. yesterday evening I received a collection call from an attorney licensed in your state.  The call was actually directed for a Mr. David Lopez, who had my phone number years ago.  I have had my phone number, through Verizon, for almost four years now. Anyway, the caller identified herself as “Rachael” and left me a message to return her call, which I did this morning.
When I called the law firm this morning, I was transferred to Rachael.  She said she would remove my number from their calling list. When I asked where she got the list from, she became rude.  At that point, I asked her why I shouldn’t file a complaint against her law firm, she replied “You do whatever you want to do.”
I thought lawyers were held to a higher standard than this.  If a lawyer from Georgia wants to harass us sun-loving hillbillies down here in Florida, shouldn’t they at least spend the extra dime to get an updated calling list?  One must wonder if every peanut picking pettifogger in the great state of Georgia has nothing better to do these days.
If I need to do anything further to prosecute these horrible misdeeds, please contact the undersigned.
    John Polivick

I don't work for this agency but have worked for collection agencies in the past. Any legitimate agency should have no problem providing information about their agency and the details of the original debt. I really wanted to address those that are attacking those individuals who warn against ignoring collection agencies: it is serious and you can be sued. At the agency that I worked for in NY years ago, I was personally responsible for helping clients pursue legal action against non-paying debtors. It was my responsibility to contact attorneys by phone and mail to have them file a legal claim on behalf of the clients and then follow the suit from start to finish as the liason between client and attorney. I don't know if this company is a legitimate law firm; but if you know that you owe a debt to a certain client, then you should at least consider contacting the company the debt is owed to to make some sort of payment arrangements. If nothing else this debt can end up on your credit report which in this economy is not something you want to happen.

For the record, in my opinion, these people are not the proper definition of an attorney. These people are professional con artists who make a ton of money breaking the law. It takes people like myself, that stand up to them and level the playing the field. One doesn't need to be an attorney to deal with these border line fraudulent scam artists. Any respectable attorney wouldn't engage in the tactics these "people" do.

No, it's not advisable to ignore them. It is however, advisable to stop them by making them follow the letter of the law, especially the FDCPA, which they tend to ignore on a daily basis. Also, if enough people filed complaints with the BAR association for violation of the laws and equally important, attorney ethics, then the moron that puts their name on the letterhead for a fee, wouldn't be an attorney any more.

I fight scammers like this all the time and win. I'm getting the proper documents together now to do just that....take out another group of people that I believe are linked to the financial support of terrorism.

No, it is a real law firm.  I worked there.  You can ignore them, but you do so at your peril because you are one step from being sued at that point.  And if you piss them off, they can fast-track it with a phone call to the client (the account holder they represent).  I've seen it done numerous times.

We also froze bank accounts when I was there.  Remember, the reason it went to a Firm is because you ignored the collection agencies.  They have a collection agency in the same building as the legal dept. and that is who is calling.  If you [***] with them the account can be sent by the client to the legal side in a heartbeat.  If you are in GA, they will represent it.  If not, they have attorneys in other States they work with and the debt will be recommended for suit.
