Have called on several occasions.  First time I called back, they wouldn't tell me who they were calling for.  I told them to stop calling my number.  Still calling,  I called back a second time and told them to stop, they will be reported to Federal Trade Commission.  I will get my attorney involved.  Still trying to find out who they are talking to, I told them that they know the number they called, look it up.  Got another call tonight from another number.
    I have no debt.

    [Today’s date]
RE: Cease and desist from [stalking/harassing/etc.]
    Dear [Perpetrator]:
This CEASE AND DESIST ORDER is to inform you that your persistent actions including but not limited to [insert actions here (example: calling me in the middle of the night and hanging up, waiting outside my house, etc)] have become unbearable. You are ORDERED TO STOP such activities immediately as they are being done in violation of the law.
I have the right to remain free from these activities as they constitute [harassment/stalking/etc.], and I will pursue any legal remedies available to me against you if these activities continue. These remedies include but are not limited to: contacting law enforcement to obtain criminal sanctions against you, and suing you civilly for damages I have incurred as a result of your actions.
Again, you must IMMEDIATELY STOP [unwanted activities] and send me written confirmation that you will stop such activities. You risk incurring some very severe legal consequences if you fail to comply with this demand.
This letter acts as your final warning to discontinue this unwanted conduct before I pursue legal actions against you. At this time, I am not contacting the authorities or filing civil suit against you, as I hope we can resolve this matter without authoritative involvement. I am not under any circumstances, however, waiving any legal rights I have presently, or future legal remedies against you by sending you this letter. This order acts as ONE FINAL CHANCE for you to cease your illegal activities before I exercise my rights.
To ensure compliance with this letter, and to halt any legal action I may take against you, I require you to fill in and sign the attached form and mail it back to me within 10 days of your receipt of this letter. Failure to do so will act as evidence of your infringement upon my legal rights, and I will immediately seek legal avenues to remedy the situation.
    Sincerely,
    [your signature]___
    [your printed name]
    CEASE AND DESIST COMPLIANCE AGREEMENT
I, [insert perpetrator’s name here] do hereby agree to stop [insert unwanted activities here] which are in violation of [your full name]’s rights. I understand that [your full name] potentially has the right to pursue legal action against me relating to my engagement in these activities, but [he/she] will not pursue those rights in contemplation of my compliance with this written demand. I further understand that [your full name] has not waived [his/her] rights and may pursue legal remedies against me if I fail to abide by this agreement. I understand that this agreement is not specifically limited to the activities named herein. I will not engage in any activity now or in the future done for the purpose of [stalking/harassing] [your full name]. If I fail to cease performing these activities, [your full name] may pursue legal action against me in accordance [his/her] legal rights. This agreement acts as a contract between [perpetrator’s name] and [your full name]. Forbearing enforcement of legally enforceable remedies is sufficient consideration to support this agreement. did it ever occur to you that maybe people can't be bothered/don't have time to go through all that aggravation? as someone who is very seriously ill, I haven't even been well enough to sue my ex doctor for nearly killing me last winter, so I definitely don't have the energy, time, or resources to do all that just for some annoying and fraudulent phone calls. I'm sure most people who are sick and/or disabled, poor, working multiple jobs, or raising children, feel the same way: it's not worth the added stress, aggravation, and effort it would take.

Wow, I had no idea this number was such a sore point with people.  They called this morning, left no message; I assume they are looking for the guy who had my number before I got the phone.  Almost eight years of debt collectors looking for that guy and calling his outdated number!  All I can do is change my number, I've been told.  Blocking this number, too.

"All I can do is change my number, I've been told. "  Not true at all.  First, if you change your number who says you won't get one that gets even more calls than you are getting now?  Second, debt collectors are easy to get rid of.  First, you send them a certified, return receipt "not me letter", then you file complaints about their criminal activity at both agencies using the links I am going to post next, and you sue them when they don't stop, getting big bucks in your pocket for the harassment.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

This is incorrect. It's based off the date of first delinquency.

Actually he is correct. If you acknowledge a debt with a third party debt collector it can renew the clock for statute of limitations. Perhaps before claiming that they are making a false claim you do your own research first. It is NOT based off of first delinquency. It can extend many times over by acknowledging a debt. Even disputing a debt can in fact have the same affect.

In most states that acknowledgement must be in writing.
