- PeaceI was on a call when CID showed 678-3650281,did no answer.Finished the call and checked ATT Uverse phone log via TV.They attempted 45 times using Unknown1 starting at 5:20-6:07 pm,which I had U-verse UARC department block last year. After getting the message that caller doesn't receive calls from people who do not identity themselves,at 5:37 pm they tried using 678-365-0281 to see if they would get someone. Did not work either! Block that number and 678 area code on my Panasonic phone. It blocks 250 numbers including area codes. Great investment, had it only a little less than a month.
- Christian NewellI was at work and they called, when i called back it was silent and had no tone. The call ended at 30 seconds. The weird thing is my account was compromised and i have a new card, but ever since then i've been having a lot of weird things happening to me and my phone.
- jhudcoThinking I was receiving a call from a friend to inform me of his safe arrival back home after a weekend visit, I answered the phone. There was no immediate response to my, "Hello". After a couple of seconds a recording started playing informing me that the I.R.S. was filing charges against me over some alleged tax matter. The recording stated that I needed to immediately call a given number in order to address these charges. Needless to say, I didn't write down the phone number, which was given twice. These people are scammers and not very good ones.
- Tera butlerThis number along with a few others keep calling sarong I have been preapproved for a personal loan. I told them I'm on a do not call list. The man worth a very thick foreign accent asked why why why why why you don't want calls. I hung up.
- Hildeswedei picked up call on cellphone.....male (apparently English speaking with no accent) asked to speak to a man whose name I had never heard...I told him that he had the wrong number and he said that my number had been given as this man's contact # and did I know anyone by that name....I said NO...I am a senior citizen and did not the individual..take my name off their list....He hung up...

- TBurner| 2 repliesReceived call from them after I called back to there 8882606720 number. Claims to ne a meditation Co for HSBC. Gave my my full account number, told me HSBC has no record of the debt cause it was charged off and that we needed to settle. when asking for proof of debt, was emailed back from Ms. Benson stating her VP said no can do but could do a chain of title for a fee. Wants me to settle or take it to court.
- Caller: meridian Mediatation
- Call type: Debt collector
- William replies to TBurner| 1 reply"Chain of title" is a scam term I haven't seen used for loans.
- Gunnar replies to William"Chain of title" is a legitimate term used in the debt collection industry. It applies to the proof needed to prove that a collector has a valid claim to a debt. It is irrelevant in this case. The scammer here would not supply the required notice of validation, by mail, and went further by claiming that they would supply their "proof" for a fee. This smells of an attempt to receive a "payment" & thereby state that a time-barred debt has been revalidated. If that's the case these scammers are treading on very thin ice & are opening themselves up to litigation with penalties that would far exceed the meager ones applicable under violations of the FDCPA.
It doesn't really matter. The callers are scammers. If they won't validate their claims in writing, by mail, they're frauds. There are no exceptions. There never are. Legitimate debt collection companies never have a problem with proving their claims & adhering to the FDCPA. If a collector refuses to do so, the collector is trying to scam you. He might be a fraud, he might be a stooge hustling a time-barred debt. There's little difference. Crooked is as crooked does.
Be Safe. Be Aware.
