Madigan sues YP.com over phone charges - St. Louis Business Journal

A Las Vegas company bilked a small businesses in Illinois and nationwide by adding unauthorized charges to phone bills, alleges a lawsuit Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed.
YP.com, incorporated under the name Live Deal Inc., called business owners under the guise of “confirming” their information for free Yellow Pages listings, but after a month, if the consumer did not cancel the service, the company crammed a $35.95 monthly fee onto consumers’ bills, the lawsuit states.
Madigan’s office said it received 21 complaints against YP.com.
Consumers who tried to cancel this service had difficulty because the customer service line was busy, according to Madigan’s office.
Madigan’s suit asks that YP.com pay civil penalties of $50,000 for violating the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and to cover the cost of the prosecution. The suit also seeks refunds for consumers who received unauthorized charges on their phone bills and a court order prohibiting the company from engaging in phone bill cramming in the future.

I got a call from this number. i asked what the scam was and was told "credit card". The caller got irate and proceeded to try to irritate me by name calling and telling me I should get a real job. He refused to hang up and just continued, he actually told me he found it entertaining...at which point civility went out the window. The only way I could get him to hang up was by using foul language and saying nasty things about his mother and finally yelling more than 20 times "die [***] die" at the top of my lungs. Yes! I could tell who and what I was speaking to at the moment, he said more than once during the ordeal he wanted to "axe" me a question. He actually sounded like a real crack head.
