- RB| 4 repliesThis is an annoying RoboCall alarmist call trying to sell you their home security system. This company call us all the time from many numbers. They are difficult to block and trace. This call was Las Vegas NV on the caller ID.
- DanaCaller ID says "Las Vegas" (like that's going to make me answer it). I let it go to voice mail -- no message left. I've had a few 'security system' calls - using different caller IDs.
- Caller: Las Vegas

- It IS ALL A SCAM FOLKS!Home security scam, same scam, different day, different number.
There is no company, there is no home security, there is no service. Just identity theft and credit card fraud.
You will receive more calls, from various numbers. All automated, all robo calls, all the same.
Rule of thumb, if you get an unknown number, that is out of your calling area, that is robo/automated, it is most likely a scam and definetly illegal. All the call signs are the same. Telemarketing scams are the new email spam
report, ignore, and warn.- Caller: Scammers looking to steal.
- FranklyMyDear replies to RB| 3 repliesThe way the these scams work is there are companies that manage the Caller ID database. Whenever a call is placed your phone company uses one of these databases in order to display the incoming call on your phone (Caller ID). Your phone company pays these companies for the use of their caller ID database. It's cheaper for them to pay another company than maintain the caller ID database themselves. Your phone company is billed, a fraction of a penny per access to the database, each month by these companies based on how many times they accessed the caller ID database. You pay a fee each month to cover the cost for the phone company but you pay much more to the phone company then the phone company pays to the caller ID database companies.
So, the caller ID company makes millions by using telemarketing companies to auto-dial as many numbers as they can in a day. Each time the auto-dialer finds a match in the caller ID database it charges the phone company for the use of their database. The phone company makes millions by adding an additional fee to your phone bill and consumers lose millions because we are paying the added fee. It's a scam. This is why the Do Not Call list is useless. The phone companies have bought off the politicians to not enforce the laws. Think about it. If the NSA can track every phone call made and find a terrorist in the haystack don't you think they can track down a company that makes millions of calls a day in violation of the Do Not Call list?
The only way to stop this is to cancel your caller ID subscription. Once the phone company realizes that consumers have figured out the game they will put a stop to it.
Also, when the auto-dialer calls your number and your number is not in the caller ID database they do not bill the phone company for that transaction so it's a waste of their time and resources to continue to call you. Now that does not mean they will stop calling you but I suspect that after a couple of months the fact that your number does not have caller ID will work its way through their system and eventually your number will be removed.
As far as the free vacation or lower interest on your credit cards, if they get a sucker on the line to bite that's just a bonus. The real money is in the caller ID database fees.
I personally have a fax machine connected to my line that picks up on the 4th ring. It has reduced the number of calls I receive considerably. - MarilynI never pick up unknown calls. No message left on the voice mail. I routinely block these calls where no message is left, and that's what I am going to do right now
- Call Block SolutionI just blocked this number using OOMA. I dumped Charter phone at $40 per month and replaced it with OOMA premium service. After startup fees for the equipment you see in the TV commercials ($99 on special at COSTCO last November) and $10 per month if paid all at once annually ($120), i get to block over 250 numbers. Blocking a whole area code with the entry "202*", for example, counts as only once block. With the premium service they ported my existing phone number for no extra charge. You install the machine yourself and contact tech support if any issues during installation.
Had to add $12 per month for wireless security monitoring as I dropped my hardwired land line. I kept Charter high speed internet to use the OOMA voice over internet service. I break even in less than a year and then have low cost calling and, importantly, call blocking from my computer keyboard. There are other solutions, too, but OOMA is highly rated and I have been happy with it. - carrieI got a call from this number today. I did a tracert on the number and it says it came from Washington, Va.
Punk thugs. - Joe_k replies to FranklyMyDear| 1 replyI don't have caller i.d. on my home phone and I still get calls. I get what you're saying but the theory is a bit flawed if those who don't have caller i.d. still get calls based on caller i.d. databases.
- NelsonCall and hang-up -- annoying!!!
- Caller: none listed
- ArthurCaller ID showed "Las Vegas, NV". No message left.
- lucky55 replies to IllinoisGot this call last night - it said cell phone NV
- StretchThis number called me, Wednesday, Sep 11, 2013, at 10:46 am. Since I don't know this number or area, I didn't answer. They did not leave a message on my voicemail, so this call could not have been very important. Must be a telemarketer or a scam. Either way, if they don't leave a message, I definitely don't want or need to speak with them !!
- Caller: Las Vegas, NV
- FranklyMyDear replies to Joe_kNot every scammer is participating in this caller ID scam. You, and many others, are just victims of scammers in general, nothing to do with the caller ID database scam.
