I had time to kill this afternoon so I took their call.
It's the typical lower your interest rate credit card scam.
They begin by asking you how much debt you have, what your interest rates are, how many card you own etc. etc.
But in order to lower your rates you have to give them a valid credit card number to "verify" to them that you're not behind in your payments.
Unfortunately, once you give the your credit card information they start charging on it immediately without your knowledge or permission.
Today I gave them a real credit card number and played along with their scripted questionnaire. And I was able to keep them on the phone for 23 minutes. It was extremely frustrating for them because the credit card I provided was indeed valid but it only had a $1 credit limit. The simply couldn't figure out why their charges weren't going thru. Ha.
