Received a call on answering machine so the first part of message was missing. It told me to call about a grand jury, federal magistrate or some other stupid thing. Assuming some type of fraudulent call,

Sounds like the last part of a typical IRS "back taxes" scam. Area code is for the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC

I JUST GOT THE SAME CALL! IDIOTS ......

Received a call from this number stating that I needed to call them back or face prosecution, call was automated. Returned call, at first they said they were the IRS, I was put on hold and when another individual picked up the phone, they said it was INS. Someone needs to inform the FCC on these folks. Illegal use of airway communication for fraudulent causes.

Got a half message from this number telling me to call another number or I would be arrested for avoiding taxes owed to the IRS.

voice message, said if the call wasn't immediately returned the county sheriff's would come arrest. DUH! still here

Same thing here. Two days in a row. Half message. Said the Sheriffs are going to arrest me. Sounds like a scam. Thanks to all posting on here.

Received message which could not understand 1st part.  They called again next morning saying if I didn't call the irs is have the us Marshall come arrest me.

Got a number of these calls over the past few days;thought it was a scam and glad to read from other posts here that it is!

The called I received was:  "Grand jury appearance for federal criminal charges with the Legal Department at the IRS".  I have never been arrested or held by any law enforcement agency for anything other than a few citations for minor traffic violations.  I have never been even 1 day late with my taxes.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Total scam.  If you were the subject of a grand jury investigation or indictment hearings you'd be informed in person by a US Marshal.  Ignore and block the calls.  No one is informed of any kind of grand  proceedings by e-mail or phone.
