For your information:  Between 6 pm and 7 pm on January 28, 2018, I received TWO phone calls - a "recorded message with a robotic female voice" telling me first that there was an outage in the Ley Road area affecting approximately 1000 customers and they expected it to be corrected by 7 pm.   The second message  (same voice) said the problem had been corrected and that if I was still experiencing problems to check my breaker box.  The phone number/answering machine called was my home phone on N Spring Drive, in Spring, Texas which is not our Ley Road house.  We also own a house on Ley Road house which is located inside the City limits of Houston and has another telephone number.    The phone number the "caller" kept repeating they were calling from was 713-207-2222, and my caller-id did show that same number.  I think it was a scam of some sort but I don't know what.  I've NEVER received a phone call from CenterPoint about an outage in my almost 72 years of living in Houston, and CenterPoint is not even the electricity provider at either property.  And, more importantly, there was not an outage in the Ley Road area on the 28th of January, 2018, per my neighbors, and none of the appliances indicated there had been a power outage either.  Has anyone ever actually talked to one of the "CenterPoint" callers?  I let my answering machine take the calls.

Just received a call from this number -- a man with a foreign accent said he was calling to alert me to disconnection of my services due to nonpayment since December. I told him I didn't know what kind of scam he was running because I don't have my electric service through Centerpoint. That I am with a different service provider and pay my bill online. He mumbled something about checking with someone else and calling me back.

It is the same scam they have been running where I live claiming they will be at my shop in less than 30 minutes to shut off my electric unless I pay them money over the phone with my debit card. I just tell them to go ahead and shut me off because I hate having electrical service and they stop calling and obviously nobody shows up to shut my service off. Fortunately the first time they tried this scam on me, they called me the day after I had paid my electric bill so I knew something was up. If you tell them you will call back when you get your card and you call the electric company instead, they won’t know what you are talking about plus they will verify that it must have been a scam.

I had same problem.  Said to go make payment on 9825 Jones Road at a Chevron with a kiosk inside.  Call him when I am there and he will send me barcode and payment has to be in cash.  I told him I was born at night but not last night and hung up.  He had a foreign accent like from MIddle East.

Received a call from this number.  It is supposed to be Centerpoint, however, they are masking their real number and showing that number.  Foreign gent tried talking Spanish to me.  Although I speak it, I pretended I didn't.  He then, in broken English, tried to tell me I was going to get disconnected for non-payment of Electricity.  SCAM ALERT - Centerpoint doesn't collect Money, they provide Electricity Distribution, not to Houses !!!   Total Scam, [***] gave me a non-working 9800 Number to get me off the line

Same number (713-207-2222) called me a couple days in a row claiming there was an outage in my area. A robotic woman left a message using my EXACT address. The strange part was, I was home at the time, no power issues. 5 min later I see an incoming FaceTime from the same number. The second I answered it (not showing my face) a woman wearing a bandana covering half her face immediately panicked trying to turn the phone away from her face. But, in the process she turned the phone to the passenger who was a Mexican male who was also wearing some type of face mask. She hung the phone up right after. I sent a text from an anonymous number saying “I screen recorded your face, you’re busted” I haven’t gotten a call back from this number. If I had the money and power to track down the people that harass hard working people, I would. I would track them down and end them. Not their scam business, I’m talking about actually ending their existence. I’m sick of getting 10 calls a day from some loser trying to take my hard earned money. They are parasites that contribute nothing to society.

Same thing happened to me. They speak with an accent and insisted I pay or I will be disconnected in the next 45 minutes. Center Point Energy said they would never make a call like that.

Got a call from somewhat spoke Spanish. Asked for me by my last name. Asked what he wanted and he said he was calling from my electrical power provider. Asked him what company is that and he said Centerpoint Energy. I called him a liar and a thief (as I do not have that service provider). I hung up on him and have blocked the number.

Got a recorded call from Centerpoint asking us to cut back on electric use yesterday. Seems like they were a day late since it had cooled down here. I got a similar email two days in a row during the highest temp days from my service provider.

Maybe one of Centerpoint's plants was having trouble. This was a legit call, but the number can easily be spoofed. We have gotten the IRS scam call with IRS showing up on the caller ID.
