- AdriaThe previous holder of the phone number I currently have was apparently receiving debt collection calls 24/7 - I'm now getting them and steadily chunking off the plethora of phonecalls that come in on a daily basis. I just called this Texas based number, stated that they were trying to reach someone who no longer has this phone number, and they apologized and told me they'd pull it and cease the calls. Very polite - now we'll see if the calls stop.
- FranThis number tried calling me this morning. I rejected it with a text message "Quit F'ing Calling Me"...... my phone said it was delivered. Wonder how they liked that one? LOL
- antimarketerGot one too. I have adopted a "zero tolerance" policy with any calls that have "Not Provided", "Unknown", "Unknown Caller", "Unknown Name", "Anonymous", "Name Withheld", or any variation of the above. I used to allow my answering machine to deal with them, but they seldom leave a message, or sometimes use a noise generator to try to fill up the machine. Now, I simply look at the caller ID, and if it says any of the above, I pick-up long enough to complete the call (1 sec.) and then promptly hang-up. They get charged for a completed call, and I don't have to listen to the phone ring. Then, I come here and look-up the number. I am amazed at the amount crap I have avoided with this method. This method works, there is nothing they can do about it, and it is immensely satisfying to run up their bill. Repeat as often as necessary. :-) Note: I have noticed lately that I am getting a lot of out-of-area-code calls from (purportedly) cell phones. These come up as "New York Call", etc. I'm still letting the answering machine handle these. I never get a message, and still look them up here. It's the usuall suspects, still trying to hide their identity. Do this for any suspicious call you do not recognise. Keep a list, and use the pick-up - hang-up method on them too!!! :-)

- JoI called back...40 times in an hour. Kept asking them to simply tell m what TCI stood for. At one point, I overheard one guy, Ron, talking to someone about rolling blunts after work. Eventually they started sayong that I should stop because I was harassing them. Lolol. I asked if they enjoyed it as much as I was enjoying being harassed by them. They told me they didn't like it and begged me to stop. I told them I would, but that next time they call me, they will get 2 hours of calls back. I don't know if it will stop them, but it sure was cathartic!

- C.B.MantoothThey told me they were Student debt consolidation company. I said sorry ma'am I went to school on my GI Bill I don't owe anything for school. She than asked if I had "friends" or "relatives" that needed help with the loans. I told her I don't have anyone's permission to give them that information. Before hanging up, she asked me my name. I had to smile into the phone, I said you mean to tell me you called a random number not knowing who was going to answer and just started to ask if they had something as sensitive as Student Loan debt too? I than said "What kind of company is this?" She quickly said no, I see your name right here thank you for you and hung up rapidly. Hopefully I do not receive another call from them.

I'm sorry, your name or number does not seem to be on our list, so we cannot remove what is not there. Have you tried obtaining a call blocker, or do you merely want to publicise your inability to understand the purpose of 800notes?
Here are some tried and true methods for reducing or eliminating repeated spam / scam phone calls: Click on the Info link, below, to see themInfoWant to stop repeated telescam phone calls?
Try these alternatives:
1. Do not answer the phone if you see an unknown number on your Caller ID ... let it go to answering machine or voicemail. Many telescammers hang up after three or four rings.
2. If you have a smartphone, get one of the inexpensive or free phone blocker apps at your online app store, and learn how to use it.
3. If your cell is not "smart", read the manual to learn how to set up a "group". Assign the scammer's phone number to that group. Also assign a "silent ring" to that group. You will not hear future calls from that number.
3a. Alternately, assign a "silent ringtone" as the DEFAULT ringtone. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to friends, family, contacts, businesses, etc. That way, you will not hear your phone ring, even if the scammer changes numbers! (Disadvantage: if you forget to whitelist somebody, you won't hear their calls, either)
4. For cell phones or landlines: Contact your phone service provider. They may have a facility or method to allow you to block numbers.
5. If you buy things online, you might want to google "phone blocker" to see what devices or apps Amazon or other sites have to offer for landlines or smartphones.
6. DO NOT call unknown numbers back without checking who called (800notes is your friend)! All that does is verify your number is "live". Instead, read this:

7. Consider picking up the phone, then immediately hanging up. A "real" caller will usually call you again, within seconds. A robocaller will not.
If you want to report potential fraudulent or scam calls, here is a fairly frequently updated list of (mostly government) sites in Canada and the USA were you can report those scams, or learn more about them.
