I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.  IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government.     Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes.  Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Got a call claimed I was under Fed Investigation .... total scam from get go.

Got exactly the same message today.  Number blocked.  These fools need to turn their "creativity" towards gainful employment.

These idiots call, I've told them they'll be fined if they call me again because I've reported them to the FTC.  I suggest everyone receiving calls from these time waster thieves to turn them into Federal Trade Commission.

Middle eastern accent claiming to be  from the IRS. Claiming that my house and property  were under federal investigation.

I received a call this morning at 12:47 ... I did not answer since it said unidentified.  They left a message trying to say that they are calling because the IRS has me "under investigation" and that I needed to call them for all of the information and what not.  I used to work at a tax professional and had to deal with the IRS all the time on behalf of my clients.  I knew right away that this is a scam.  The IRS will never call or email you.  They will send a letter in the mail instead.  and their phone number is always a toll-free number.

Calling from the IRS Department - your physical address is currently under Federal investigation - so call me back to get the details information about the investigation - phone number - it is very important we hear back from you today! The person speaking is a foreigner and the IRS never identifies or calls you as IRS Department - ignorant scammers! Do Not Answer Numbers you don't know - get an answering machine and if important they can leave a message and you should know if you owe anyone and Do Not Call them back! Scammers!!!

Recorded message claiming to be the IRS and saying there was an arrest warrant issued for someone at my address over property taxes.  Also called ten minutes later from another Houston TX number, 713-597-6206.

I received two calls today telling me that it is Officer Watson from the IRS and there is a warrant out for my property. The caller ID came from California but the # to call back was 713-936-2465. Man had an Indian accent.

An " officer" from "Houston Police Dept." called - with heavy Indian accent called.  We just hung up.

they left me the following message : IRS they have issued warrant upon you and you physical address is currently under federal investigation, so call me back to get info on your case, my call back # 713-936-2465. it is very important we hear from you today.

Our numbers are in the Do-Not-Call Registry.

I received a call this afternoon.  My Call Blocker requires them to identify themselves and to call back.  They didn't.  Caller ID only said "Unknown Name."  Some on here mention it is an IRS scam...I've heard that scam has been increasing in the last 2 months.  I will block this number.

Called yesterday 7/1/16 at 2:01pm PST.  We live on the "left coast." We were out shopping at Costco so they did leave a message on our answering machine but it was so garbled we could hardly understand it; a man with a heavy foreign accent; something about the IRS and a criminal investigation against us.  This is about the 4th one of these we have received over several months and we have yet to be arrested nor charged with anything.  We recorded it to play back for our family and friends and have a good laugh and then added their number to our "blacklist" in our call blocker.  If they call again from this number the phone will only ring once and cut them off notifying us that another scammer has bit the dust.
