caller ID says " Local " which is not a local area code

Recieved a call today from this particular phone number 10/18/2014 at 4:51 PM and Caller ID displayed "7146076441 714-607-6441" and as usual, no VM was left indicating who they are or the reason for their call, another number I can ignore.

Called earlier tonight.  Did leave message.  Started listening to it.  Sounded like it was an AARP political message and deleted it.

Called & left no message.

Just got a call from this number. Recording mentioned AARP, free senior medical alert and said  my doctor referred them to me (which I knew was just some B.S.). Pushed 1 so I could speak/mess with someone. I immediately asked her was AARP aware their name was being used to scam seniors and which of my doctors referred them to me. She hung up which I already knew she would.

Over the past month I have received almost 100 calls from not only this number but from every city there is.   I'm stumped. Why the same message from so many cities?   Also which telephone carrier is letting these scammers get away with numbers which you can't call back as they say they are disconnected.   This number is from Compton, California and has other numbers associated with them - 714-607-6421,714-233-2134,714-607-6441.  I've also gotten multiple calls from Houston Tx,Cheyenne Wyoming, Chicago, Il. NYC,Scranton PA,Salt Lake City, Boulder City, Ft. Lauderdale, and on and on and on....Keep filling up my 30 blocked numbers, replace one at a time and fill it up again.....................Ugh!!

These bottom feeding scum use Computers to do their robo calling.
They can spoof different numbers and fake caller IDs.
They send out hundreds of calls at once, more than they have operators in their boiler room operation to answer that is why you often get no answer.
Calls like the medic alert use a recording.

Calling constantly &?leaving no message... Annoying!!!

From reading the comments above, it appears that this type of call is difficult to identify. Why do we have to put up with this? I want to know who is the source of these calls. Finding out should not be that difficult with all the technology available to service providers. Put a STOP to these annoying phone calls! Apparently these people do  not adhere to the do not call list!

Spam phone calls;
I get too many annoying calls like this mostly every day. The government's Do Not Call is useless!
I am glad that my Sprint phone allows me to tag these numbers on a reject list and never to hear
from that number again. Problem is the clowns keep changing number. When that same number
calls the next time I do not know it and it will go to my voice mail. If they do call and stay on the line
mu outgoing announcement says if you are a telemarketer, "Hang the hell up now". Only once
did a clown done that!

Robo call not nice at all

Claimed associated with AARP. "This message for retirees aged 65 or over....." Put them on hold at that.
Listened a bit later, talking about $3,000 grocery gift certificate. back to hold, which wastes their time, and perhaps reduces one call they can make in a day.

No snswer when I pickup.  I received this call seconds after an identical call from another fake area code.

Recording said was AARP for people over 65, that is not me so hit 0 to talk to someone. I asked to be put on DNC list because they dialer called my Cell phone and that in itself is illegal.  The person responded with "OK b*tch" and proceeded to tell me to hang up. I asked if he had put me on the DNC list and he responded "whatever" and hung up.

Says from AARP.  Health provider has given them our name to get a free senior Fall pendant.  And we have also won $3000.00 in coupons.  Yea right.  Press one to confirm info.
