- HAYES replies to 1star| 2 repliesReceived the same call today stating that her name was Rebecca Morehouse with Rubin and Yates law firm and I need to contact her at 855-206-8348 about check fraud...have NO idea what this woman is talking about.
- CWG40 replies to HAYESNot a law firm. Just a debt collection company. Accusations of check fraud are common with the debt scammers. It's total nonsense. If you had written a bad check, you would have heard it from the bank. Not from some scummy debt collector. Debt collectors have nothing to do with fraud cases. They are just trying to scare you into paying them something.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. - Marianne replies to HAYESI received a call from a Mr. Russo telling me that I have a legal obligation and being named as a defendant and is going to to have a sheriff dispatched to my home/and or employment and that I have to appear in court. Said me or my attorney needs to call them at this number and that I have been legally worned...855-206-8348
- DONNA RCalled several times saying I owe money to Cash Advance. I do not owe anything. Now he called my work two different numbers. Glad I read this.
- kmThis number is also associated with a Goldstein Brock company. The number that was originally left was for Rubin and Yates. Apparently, this company is going by several different names. I was told that unless I made payment arrangements with them, I was going to be served with papers. I asked to be sent information about the debt and the man replied that I had already been sent numerous notices to which I had not responded. He then said that it is not his job to give me that information, only to get the money I supposedly owe. I refused to give him any information and did not give him any banking information to make arrangements to pay this supposed debt.
- Caller: Goldstein Brock
- Call type: Debt collector
- Fed upI reported them to the Attorney General's office. They will not provide any documentation and I do not owe this scam company anything.
- .godsgrace1| 1 replyI know I owe first citizen some money but at the moment i can not pay it. so the lady with a foreign accent tells me something about taking me to court then she talks about garnishment. and I told her how much i made and i didn't even have gas money to get to work tomorrow. so she said something then I told her she know they were wrong for telling my fiance in detail what was going on with my account. i said i didn't even know him back then. she claim he called them and said that he was handling all my legal information. I was like he said you guys called him he never had my phone to get your number and you never called me. so she gets irate and says he shouldn't have called us and lied to us. i said he never called you then she said that she hopes the judge takes my whole salary so i don't be able to eat or get gas to work.
- Call type: Debt collector
- MJG replies to .godsgrace1Please read CWG40's comments earlier in this thread. There is excellent information about the scam. Garnishment can only happen with a court order, not because a debt collector says so.
