I hate these people. when I talked to the guy I said, "I want to make one thing straight from the get go: you guys are a collection agency right?" he said no. when i asked him if he was governed by the fair debt collections practices act he said no.

the moron also proceeded to tell me his name was James Collins and he has a debt for abotu $500 that I owed to Dollar Tree for a payday loan i got in october of 2005.

I know for a fact this is a firm considered by the state of New York to be a collector.  He told me, like  a [***], the office was previously under Patrick Corbitt but is no longer becasue of the following reason:

He was found guilt of some 20 counts of identity fraud and extortion

Newbie Attorney, fresh out of law school (UB Buffalo,
2004) Patrick Michael Corbett, 28, is already up to his
ears in trouble with the wrong crowd. Apparently
Patrick has succumbed to the pitch of criminal debt
collector Douglas J. MacKinnon by ‘renting’ his law
license out to this group of desperate debt collectors, for a piece of the action.

Corbett follows a long line of attorneys, who have fallen victim to the lies of instant riches from debt collection,
simply by ‘renting’ out his law license, so criminal debt collectors can extort monies from innocent consumers.

Newbie Lawyer Corbett apparently is unaware of the lies, deceit and broken promises suffered by his predecessors, not to mention the incredible financial bind and problems with the state bar that his association with this criminal organization is about to bring down on him.

One consumer attorney, familiar with this group and the
way they operate recently told me that newbie’s like Patrick are told they can make a ton of money in a short period, simply by allowing debt collectors to (falsely) claim they
are a law office, capable of bringing suit down on unpaid accounts, they purchased for pennies. Two of his recent predecessors lost their license from this same address they filed for more than a million dollars in bankruptcy. One other associated downtown (Franklin Street) Buffalo lawyer is up to his ears in an out of state lawsuit that may lead to his filing for bankruptcy protection, or possibly worse problems, for being both incredibly stupid and disgustingly greedy.

The problem with Corbett is he failed to do his homework,
or was too dumb to realize the consequences of his actions. He has ZERO experience in FDCPA litigation, an area of law that requires expertise and a lot of experience. So now it’s
up to those who read this to take actions, so he can be held accountable for the crime that is certain to be perpetrated under his name and law license.

by these fools should tape their calls, demand debt validation in writing, report ALL threats to the NYS Bar

I still would not give them anything.
No matter who they are. Dont talk to strangers.
just never answer unknown numbers.Its that simple.

because if some stranger thousands of miles away
in another state, has to call you on the phone begging for
money for any reason, chances are you dont have to pay it.
its a Scam. most likely they dont even have a business license
to operate in your state. and the debts not valid.

obviously you do owe that debt thats how they get in contact with u and why they get in contact with you in the first place
