Got a call from a Mr Chuck Byer or Dyer from QAR at my job, stating that he needed either me or my lawyer to give him a call back. This is a total scam.

    Yeah Right!
I'm not going to pretend I don't owe some money. This is 2009 and I'm in the same boat as millions of other people. I paid what I could for as long as I could and then I couldn't. I contacted the people I needed to and tried going through the proper proceedures. But they want to sic a bunch of criminals on me after these banks took billions from the bailouts. So I say - f*ck 'em. I live in one of the hardest hit areas of the country and I'm lucky enough to have a job for three days per week to try and survive. My credit is shot so I'm in no hurry to pay these pricks back. I would if things pick up. I'd try to pay them back in full and not some settlement.
But here's what people need to know. There are millions of people in the same boat. They can't sue them all. It's kind of like the illegal downloading thing - too many defendants not enough lawyers. So I've learned to sleep easier at night. These people have access to your credit reports. They know if you have an income and what it is. They can sue me all they want. I'll be found guilty and ordered by the judge to pay up. I won't be able to and they might haul me back into court for the second hearing where the judge determines if you have the ability to pay this debt. If not it goes away. I don't want it to come to that or to have to file bankruptcy but keep pushing it QAR and that's what'll happen. It's not hurting me any more than I already am. They don't want people to know that those routes are available.
My other advice - caller ID and a phone with a ringer you can turn off. These [***] called me ten times a day when they first started. Now it might be once a day. Keep wasting your time, QAR. Pay these sacks of garbage 10 bucks an hour to call and make up lies and threats. When I do have enough to start paying my bills again it won't be through you. I'll contact the place I owed money to in the first place. If they don't want to take my money anymore - whatever. If they sold the debt I guess they don't care about my account one way or another anymore. That means these leeches have probably paid pennies on the dollar to take over that account. That's what I'll give you people - five to ten percent. Truth be told it's probably been sold a few times. These jokes probably have 1-3 percent of my debt invested in this. So give me a ring with a settlement offer of five percent and we might get somewhere.

Bottom line - unless you owe tens of thousands of dollars to any one place they probably don't have time to deal with you and won't get to you before the statute of limitations runs out. Ignore them and be ready to follow one of the options I laid out above if you are one of the people who get sued.

Same approach as above.  When I continued to questions Troy Ellis, and asked him for the name and number he wanted, he gave me the wrong last name and phone number.  I told him that and he said he had misdialed.

    victim also july 2009
I am a widow and on disability. I received a threatening similar call. Incidentally, I had worked in collection yrs. and yrs. ago. When reputable companies never would have dreamed of such scams. All this is in my opinion, allowed and or possibly encouraged by our "good old bailed out banking and or businesses." in ways to collect debts.

I think all of whoever has been scammed should band together and write Congress and or their state attorney general and have them put a stop to this kind of harassment.

Because, I can only guess anyone who allows this, in high place after they are notified shouldn't be juggling our decisions.

I am going to see how I can pursue this. Being a widow it's really scary and annoying that anyone could instill such threats on anyone.

People have had so much devastation in their life with all job losses they do not need to end up in E.R. with severe chest pains as I did.

If this is allowed to take place by our state and or any government officials, there needs to be an exposure of those who condone this tactic.

And when anyone finds out who the collector is representing they should expose them in any way. So that others won't deal with these kind of businesses

    It's got to stop somewhere....................

Please, anyone else do not acknowledge any of these calls, cause it just gives them an o.k. that these kind of tactics work. Thus, whichever state and or, level this is remains to go on and harass poor people already victimized by job losses.

    hellloo.... scam time...usa
PLEASE, ANYONE READING HTIS.. I HAVE RECIEVED THE SAME THREATENING CALLS. GUESS ITS TIME TO TRY AND CIRCULATE PETITIONS TO PUT THIS TYPE OF COLLECTION OUT OF BUSINESS.
ANY BUSINESS THAT HAS TO INTIMIDATE AND SCARE ANYONE, YET ALONE MYSELF A WIDOW ON DISABILITY HAS NO RIGHTS TO BE IN BUSINESS.
I HAVE HAD SOME SCHOOLING IN BUSINESS LAW AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS ILLEGAL.
MAY I SUGGEST TO CONTINUALLY Call and write your state attorney generals' office and congress. all though ,some form of government offices may allow this to take place in my opinion and that is why it may be happening? it's just my opinion. but, just sitting and brushing it off wont' help.

i personally have quit dealing with afew banks that seem in my opinion to be using this strategy for debts.

Is this the kind of businesses our politicians have and or are backing?  with stimulas funds?

    hhmmmm.............

I am "with" MAH, who posted, above
    I owe, big time

I receive hundreds of calls per week

    This one takes the cake

"negative statements against you," "so we can protect you," "done a background check and I can see you have never been involved in anything like this," "some has 'filed' this - not me - I didn't do it - and I don't know who..." references to my "known associates" and "daily activities" and on and on and on in around a 3 - 4 min. message, addressing my voicemail by using my first name in the most personable and friendly way, as if she were just trying to help me out, by making this heartfelt personal appeal to good sense and reason, backed up by a good dose of THE BOOGEY MAN IS OUT T0 GETCHA!

I get threatening calls. I get stern calls. I get calls from obviously India-based call centers requesting a "location information," but none so bizarre and outlandish as this

Incidentally, the style of speech of the pitchwoman is reminiscent - not matter what you think of her politics, I am just saying this flatly - of Sarah Palin's, in which "get you" becomes "getcha" and protect you is "protectya'." It's comical, really. Katylin Campbell was there person

"they have a lot of personal information about 'ya..."

"I hope it will benefit 'ya..."

"I want to fight for 'ya..."

"Gotta close this out, today, before I send all these documents out..."

    ridiculous

just listened to the message, again, mostly for entertainment value, albeit gallows humor

thanks all who have posted on this and other such outfits

QAR is unfortunately a legitimate recovery agency, but never make any repayment agreements with them.  Do not give them any of your personal information.  Don't return their calls.  If you wish to settle a debt, contact the original creditor and ask them which companies they employ for recovery purposes.  Choose to do business with anyone but QAR. They are the most unprofessional, rude, and sneaky company....  They will refuse to give you written documentation of your agreement, or receipts for any payments you make. They won't let you speak to a supervisor.  The only person at QAR who is courteous and efficent is Mr. Price.

    whose to say
LOL - I just got a call from "Tennessee Smith" as he said thats what his name was from QAR.  Actually, he left a message, because I DO NOT ANSWER CALLS FROM PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW.  Yeah, I know I owe money, only because I lost my job, thanks to Arnie the great gov of CALIF.  Stupid [***].  Anyways, yeah, get in line [***] head.  You are actually the 32nd collection agencies phone number that I have saved in my phone - which I set to be ignored when you call again.  It will just go to voice mail and that will be deleted when i get around to it. What is hilarious is that I only owe three different credit card companies, a total of all three under $10,000.  Whats even more hilarious, is the times that I did call these companies and asked for some help, (or payment options, etc.) and all of them denied me help, because at the time I called, I hat yet to be deliquent with any of them.  I was trying to be honest and up front about what was to come and NONE OF YOU wanted to help.  So, [***]!

    Bite me Kaitlin Campbell
Wow! Yeah Kaitlin Campbell called me too and told me they were suing me for 4x the debt I owed but were willing to settle for what they bought the debt for.  I told her that I was wondering what I was going to do with the 2000 in my bank account cuz I decided not to go to Mexico NOT! Anyways- I thought it was legit cuz yeah I do owe this money on this card and offered arrangements but she denied payments. I told her see her in court. I did some research.....I'm going to state what I found out but check your state laws! I can't be sued because I've moved to another county than where I signed my contract and they don't have an attorney in my state.

I been getting this calls too and from a lot of diferent phone number, whic at the end all are conected to this SCAM.

DO NOT GET SCARE, AND DO NOT CALL THEM BACK....AGAIN DO NOT GET SCARE AND DO NOT CALL THEM BACK IS A SCAM.

The best advice that I can post here is: If you do not know the number do not answer, once they hang up save the number in your phone with the "SCAM" word, then just delete the message.
