I answered and they said they were from AT&T and asked if they could talk with Rick and I said yes, shortly after that the line went dead. This is obviously a scammer!

I answered and they said this is a local Direct TV office trying to sell me service.

Unless you signed up at a local store, it's not them. And even if you did, I'd be very skeptical it was really them

As you know, you don't have to sign up for anything in order for people to call you, whether they are a real company or not, local or out of town.  The number that was provided does come up a AT&T local land line out of Buffalo, NY.  My guess is since AT&T and Direct TV work together, it's a sales call.  My advice would be to call either one directly if you would want any of their services.  Sales calls are sales calls.  You tell them to stop calling they stop.  If they continue calling that's when it starts to get fishy.  If they are an actual scammer great, thanks for letting me know Rick. Take some time doing a little research before calling them a "scammer" due to phone issues from either party seems irresponsible to me. They gave me a call back number of 716-442-3735.  I have no desire to contact them, I have the Dish.  I appreciate the advise TheRealSeriously.

Diane, I just looked up the number on Whitepages-it is NOT an AT&T number-it's a VoIP and a scam. Here's that info:

TheRealSeriously, I agree that number is a VOIP.  The number that was left 716-442-3735 is an AT&T number. Sorry for the miscommunication. They are just a Buffalo based Telemarketer for DirectTv.  Thank you for looking into it further. I appreciate you taking the time .

I doubt they're actually with AT&T-probably a third-party collection agency that buys old debt and tries to collect
