New SCAMMER just popped up

Its a new number and for a name they just use NUMBER

We received this call today, 9/17/14, ID "Number," left no message. So annoying to receive 5-8 calls daily from these people, not only this number but others.  We do not answer them or return the calls if they do not leave a message or identify themselves.

The answering machine was activated but no message was left.

ID Shows Youngstown, NY.Similar number before but was 716-219-6819. Since I know no one in this AC, I am just going to block the whole 716 AC.

we received call from 716-219-6817.  This is SCAMMERS.  Please do not pay money to these SCAMMERS.

I just received another call from this telemarketer. I subscribe to Consumer Reports and received this information as an alternative approach to fight back against robocalls... Complain to the telephone companies. The e-mail is as follows...

"Robocalls are hard to stop. Despite the Do Not Call registry, the robocalls keep coming because they are cheap to set up and easy to disconnect once the spotlight hits.

Many of the companies behind the most annoying robocalls are little more than scam operations. They hide behind spoofed caller ID numbers, and do their best to get you to provide personal information. The scams will continue as long as cheap robocalls can easily connect scammers to potential victims.

That's why it is time for the phone companies to step up and block the unwanted robocalls.

Tell the major phone companies to adopt robocall blocking technologies and stop the scams!

The now famous "Rachel from cardholder services" connected victims to a company that promised to lower credit card interest rates, collected a steep fee, and then provided little or no service according to court filings. Other scammers spoof the IRS or claim to be collecting debts you don't owe.

There are so many scams, the government can't keep up. Despite recent FTC actions costing robocallers millions, the calls continue.

But technologies to block many robocalls already exist. The phone companies have been slow to adopt them, claiming they may not block everything or could inadvertently block a legitimate call. Yet these technologies are already in use in Canada.

Tell the phone companies to stop making excuses and take the lead — stop the robocalls!

Help us stop the robocalls with a quick message yourself. After you've taken action, forward this message to anyone else you know who might want to help! The phone companies need to hear our message — loud and clear!

Received a phone call from this number.
I did not answer the phone, and they did not leave a message on my answering machine.
My caller ID reads this phone number as "Number."

Everyone be cautious ... more than likely, this is a robocall from telemarketing scammers.

Most telephone services (Comcast, Charter, AT&T, etc.) allow you the ability to send an incoming call to another number 'where you might be temporarily'.  So I keep a list of the spam numbers that call me and I add them to the 'call forward' list that sends the call to a number that just happens to be another recent spammer's number.  This way the call is forwarded to another spammer.  Of course the spammers change their caller ID quite often, but it is a fun game.

You can also block any call that does no show a "Caller ID".  I use this to block all calls that say "Incoming call" or "Wireless caller", etc.  The calls are blocked before they are sent to my house phone, so my phone doesn't ring for these incoming calls.
