- Joseph| 1 replySo the Takhar group has called me about a million times, I accidently picked up today expecting it to be the gas people coming to connect my gas and they said well you owe $51 for some books you order from this book club. Here is the number 717-918-2665 press 0. They argued forever saying that they couldnt disclose my information. I have never in my life ordered books from there nor from anywhere for that matter. This is absolutely insane. They go please have the person you speak with give me there id number and name so that we can void the information. I can't believe this.

- Renee replies to JosephIt happened to me too today 11/2010
only it was Allied Interstate that initially called leaving the message to call 17179182665
I called the number - it was a book club ( Ive never belongs to a book club- ever)
when I gave the gal my last name and zipcode she shouldnt find me in their system and suggested I call Allied back @ 1800-209-3949
I just looked at my latest credit report for this month
nothing negative is on it
there is no collection agency against me
I dont plan to pursue it - CindeeI may have figured this out. I have been totally slammed with magazine subscriptions (opt out free offers) and recieved columbia house DVD (never signed up) and everyone's favorite BOMC2.com! The people at the magazine subscriptions helped clear it up. If you order on line there are occassional pop-ups(?) that you have to answer no to during the ordering process or congratulations! your are a member. I think since it is in the same area as the payment method and that is how they get your account.
No phone calls for me... I ended up with magazines, DVDs, books, and from the looks of my account I have some childrens book club shipment coming... I don't have kids! If I manage to find out which company I order from is the culprit (that @#@ opt out box I didn't catch) I am going to send a scorching letter and post everywhere I can on the internet to beware! - AnnaReceived a call from a woman about the Mystery Guild Book Club. She stated that I had ordered books from them over two years ago and that I owed them money. I told her that I did not and will not be paying for any books. Also told her that this was some type of scam. Why would you wait 2 years to collect on something, sounds fishy to me. She gave me an account number and a number to call, 717-918-2665 and said to call it and that it was a toll free call. I never knew that area code 717 was free. They just want to try to collect money, I guess with the bad economy they are trying to collect every cent they can. Well they need to take there scam somewhere else, because I read on several forums that it is a scam going on where this company callls people and tells them that they owe money for books clubs, Columbia House and Blockbuster when they do not. NEVER GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY TYPE OF INFO, ESPECIALLY YOUR BANK ACCOUNT NUMBERS, CREDIT CARD NUMBERS, OR SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT NUMBERS. Ask them to prove everything, also file a complaint with the FTC and the attorney general in your state and the state where the company is located.

- KELSEY replies to The GreatWhat is the number?
- shelea replies to Vera| 1 replyI live in Rantoul, and the area code is NOT what is shown on your post.... it is 217.
- anonymous replies to sheleaYou need to understand that 717-918 and 217-918 are both valid exchanges and this thread is about a book-cramming scammer. It's possible the scammer chose these locations Danville/Rontoul IL and Harrisburg PA for their exchanges that differ in 1 digit (and 2 is like 7 with an extra stroke) to add confusion so lighten up.
- BetsyA charge for $65.64 from Bmc*bomc just appeared on my credit card with the number 717-918-2665 next to it. I called that number, but the "service center" was closed for the night. I have not joined any book of the month club or anything. And I haven't been called either. I'm so angry that someone has stolen my credit card number and is just going around stealing my money. Why can't I just walk into a police station, give them the telephone number and turn them in for theft? (I know, I live in fairy land!!!)
I know I'll get my money back tomorrow, either from them or by my credit card insurance, and probably have to cancel that card, and get another credit card with another number, and go through changing every number with every vendor that I use..... sigh..... And these people will just go on and scam someone else tomorrow.
There has to be a better way. Can't we find an actual address? Where is the call center?- Caller: No call
- Veniessa401 replies to haleyThey just charge me $38.30 for nothing, so what I am going to do is just cancel my card and get another one instead of going through calling them because the more i wait they might take out another one...so my thought is change you information at the bank it may cost a fee but that is better to pay that fee than to have them having access to you account information.....i hope this is a lesson for us all about this internet or calls that we have receive....''.TAKE IT EASY ANYTHING THAT IS EASY DO NOT TAKE IT''

Yes my Debit Card was also charged but I called the BMC tel. number on my bank charges and told them immediately remove it or give me a supervisor. They said within 48 hours it would be off, and it was.
Seems like they don't want supervisors time involved with refunds on this scam.
Yes I said scam. (ripoffs like this are a dime a dozen)
We've all heard it before.
Golden Rule #1:
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT EVER give out your Debit card info. on the internet.
the BMC company counts on you not reading the fine print.- Caller: BMC Book of the Month Club
- Joan E O'Brien| 1 replyI would like to cancel my membership on account #970312358 and #013313167, thank you
- anonymous replies to Joan E O'BrienYou do understand your request here on 800notes will do no good, don't you? You need to contact BMC.
- Jon replies to The Great| 1 replyok i got charged too and they give your money back??? b/c they charged me 75 dollars and im livid!! i will gcive them a call and be professional but im ticked
- Jon replies to JonO yah the number is 717-918-2665....and i jus pushed a bunch of numbers till it sends u to costomer service ...im callin monday b/c they are closed on weekends and i found out about it 4 mins after they closed!!! im so mad...
- SarahI did not recieve a call or join this club and yet they have charged $93 and change to my credit card. They are closed on weekends, how nice, and the charge was posted on Friday evening again after they were closed. I called my credit card company and they said it looks like it's for a subscription, which I did not sign up for. I will be calling this scam company on Monday and if they will not refund the charge I will call my credit card company back and they will dispute the charge, close the account, and issue a new account number for me since they cannot block this supposed vendor from charging my card. The rep ticked me off by implying that they couldn't stop charges that I authorized, but as I explained to her I did not authorize this charge or join this club. I had a book club membership at one point, but I cancelled it over a year ago. One way or another this will get straightened out on Monday. This company needs to be stopped, it is unethical and illegal to operate a business by just charging people for books and subscriptions they didn't order.
