- AnonymSame type of call. Stacy said my husband registered online for their baby2be.com "stuff". I know my husband didn't do this and I didn't remember that I did. She wanted to "verify" my personal information so that we could get the free stuff. What a scam. I said that if I wanted anything, I would call them back. It looks like this is a new type of scam. The internet is surely a big universe of online preditors (sexual as well as financial)! BEWARE.

I finally called the number back and spoke to someone. They said my husband signed us up. When I informed them that he didn't and that we want to be taken off the call list, they said they would so we'll see. Stay tuned....

- ClementineHi all. I've only gotten the call once (so far), but I feel I should share my story, only because it is so very strange and left me feeling all sorts of freaked out.
It was just this morning, around 10:03 AM and I was lying in my bed. My little sister comes barging in saying there's a call for me. I pick up the phone and say "hello." There is a very familiar voice on the other end that says "hello, (my name)?" Hearing this voice, my first thought is wondering why she'd be calling, but I answer in a very friendly tone, you know, as if I know her. "Oh hi!" I say. Strange thing was, I thought this was my boyfriend's mother, as she sounded just like her. I mean, seriously, one did not have to be a paranoid person to recognize this voice, so I played along when she claimed her name was "Josephine" with Baby2Be.com. She began with saying I had signed up for my baby to receive free stuff. So I said I had not remembered doing such things and I didn't even have a baby. So she then said "okay, well, might it be you will be having a baby some time?" to which I responded, with a chuckle, "oh no, not anytime soon." She then asked "maybe you signed up for someone else's baby?" and I said "well, maybe my baby brother?" Then silence. After a few moments, she spoke again saying "and he was born October 23rd?" Which struck me as very strange as this was the birthdate my boyfriend THOUGHT was mine until I corrected him soon after. I answered "no, he was born october the 3rd." "And what might your mother's name be?" to which I foolishly gave her the answer, not thinking it might actually be a scam and not who I thought it was (but it really sounded like her!)
I was so confused at this point in time, I asked for her name again "I'm sorry, what was your name again?" in a very inquisitive tone, letting her know I knew who she was. "Josephine," she answered. Then it went into an uncomfortable silence. I felt bad knowing I'd have to hang up on this person, knowing it could very well be my boyfriend's mom just trying to find something out, so I made my mom press the "hang up" button. My mom, meanwhile, heard the entire phone call and even said "wow, I assumed you knew this person the way you answered." All I could think is why would his mom do this? To find out if maybe I secretly had a kid that I was hiding from my boyfriend?
See, my boyfriend was deployed to Iraq late last night, but I got to see him on Saturday and spent the entire day with him. I was freaking out, thinking I may just be going crazy. She sounded just like his mom! My mom offered her opinion. "Maybe since he's going to Iraq, she wanted to find out if you could be pregnant in case anything happens to him over there." It never struck me that this could actually be a scam or something, all I could think was maybe I was being a little paranoid, but then it all made sense to me. If it was her, I understand why she'd do this. She was very emotional when talking to my boyfriend over the phone Saturday night. That night, his mom even asked if she was interrupting anything.
Thinking that that could have been her that called me this morning, I was hoping that if it was her, she wouldn't be offended that I hung up on her. I mean, she couldn't really blame me! I thought she was a telemarketer!
Well, after reveling in potential paranoia, I went to my computer to find out where this area code would lead me. "New York City?!" That was nowhere near where my guy's mom lived. Then I typed in the entire number into my often used search engine, and came across a site (this one), with people complaining that they've been getting calls repeatedly. Your stories sounded much like mine, the number, the caller ID, the birthdate mistake, the fact that I don't even have a kid, the fact that I'd never sign up for that kinda thing on behalf of my mom (she has her own email, she can do that)... but those very same things only contributed to what I thought was going on.
Only difference between my story and yours was that I happened to recognize this very recognizeable voice. I mean, she just happened to call me the day after he ships off? What about the October 23rd thing? How did she know about my baby brother? How did she know my name? My name isn't even registered to my home number! My mom's name is! But then, his mom only knew my cell number, not my home number, so maybe she could have acquired it through him somehow?
I felt freaked out before getting here, but to find out others have gotten similar calls from the very same number only leaves me to revel in my own madness... Okay, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic. But was it her or was all the stress finally getting to me, and it was just a simple scamming telemarketer that just happened to sound EXACTLY like my soldier boy's mother? With all these complaints, it only leaves me to think that perhaps the stress of him leaving me and not coming to see me for another year.. all that stress maybe has gotten to me. I really like to think I'm much saner that.. She really sounded like her! I have never been more sure of anything in my life! I am one to say "I don't know" when someone asks me anything, but not this time. Now, I don't know for a fact if it was indeed her (there's no hard proof, just potential paranoia), but I definately know it sounded like her. There was no difference in voice or speech pattern. I contemplated telling him of his mom's little stunt. I laughed it off when I hung up, only freaked out to the point of wondering why she'd do that. But now it is so much worse. I will not tell him of this, for I'll sound extremely crazy. For all the coincidences and mere speculation on my behalf, there is actual proof against me; I am freaked out to another extreme -- to question my own thinking.
Most of me still believes it could have been her, then there is this part of me, slowing taking over the rest, that believes I may be going a little crazy. Maybe I care more about him than I actually thought and it hurts knowing where he is going. I know he loves me. He tells me everyday he calls, and when in person. He says it so wonderfully and expresses it to near perfection, in all his little actions, when he traces the arch in my back, how he nearly took me aboard the plane with him saying "I want to take you in with me as far as you can go" and hugged me so tight before passing through the gate, and how when he awoke in the mid of the night only to realize I was asleep beside him in a twin sized bed, he grabbed me and said "you're too far, get closer." and kissed me despite morning breath. It amazes me when he does it. How he can make me feel what he feels for me with just his voice, let alone his actions. And I believe he really does. He knew I did not yet feel that strongly about him, but he sticks by me, hoping someday I'll admit it. He always told me "don't worry, when the realization hits you, it's gonna hit hard." I never thought it would be this way. In a way that would make me question my very own sanity..
I can only hope and pray every night until he's done with Iraq that he is kept safe and comes back to me in one piece.
I do realize I may have gone off on a tangent. I hope I have not bored you all with my silly story of extreme coincidences and possible paranoia.- Caller: "Baby 2 Be"
- mumu from san diegoMy husband got a call from this lady claiming she was from a website that I must have signed up for. I really don't remember doing this. Then I was thinking that I must have signed my sister up for some free baby stuff. I really thought this was legitimate. Just be careful who you give info to.

- SaraI received a call from this website also. Sounded like a scam. They asked me for my phone number whenever they are the ones that called me in the first place. I do not remember registering for a "babytobe.com" website and I don't think I would have put my cell phone number on it either.

- Barb| 4 repliesI finally answered one of their calls, after reading all these post, I thought, why not...They asked for my daughter by name,And I said in a very sorry voice, what?...what do you want her for, she isn't with us any longer...she said, well..she signed up the Grandmother for FREE Baby items, and we need to verify some information so that we can send them to you, I said..Don't you know? and she said, what? I said she died in child birth..The woman hesitated for only a second and said, well then, if you could just verifiy this information, we'll send this stuff right out, I said for what? And she said for your grandson...Don't know where she got that info from, but I said, My Daughter and Grandson died when she gave birth after the Auto Accident. She said, I'm so sorry,..and with out waiting a beat said, can you verify your SS# and Mothers maiden name for me and we'll send these right to you...What was she thinking, I said, you want MY personal information, after I just told you my daughter died and my Grandson? Haven't I been through enough???..and I kinda started to chuckle, but she must of taken it for a sob, and she said, I'm so sorry, and hung up...My Daughter and Grandson are just fine, and healthy, but this company has to be stopped!!!...what a crock!
