Same exact thing happened to me todayI got a call from this company tonight 11/07/2013, a phone call from Colorado Springs Co showed on caller ID, 719-258-1702  Caller claimed it was a 60 sec phone survey about allergies. Asked if I'm a smoker, pets, marital status, year of my car, if I own or rent, etc.  I answered questions and was told that I'd be entered in a drawing to win.  Today I received a call from a different number, 719-258-1702 (Solar Wavs on caller ID) and was told that I had won a vacation + $400 certificate for an online shopping site and that someone would come by my home to deliver the prizes BUT that I need to watch 1/2 hr demonstration of the Air Purifier 2000 and complete a survey.  Caller said someone is in my area now, they could come by this evening (anytime 6:30-9:30 p.m.)  CREEPY!  They're calling from Colorado but someone is in my area (Grand Jct)  I told them no, they can call tomorrow but I would look them up online first. Caller gave company name as CNK Research. I googled CNK Research online and this site came up at the top of the list (with many complaints).  It's apparently a sales company (or worse) posing as a phone survey company.  I'm on the national Do Not Call list so I filed a complaint online at donotcall.gov.

What they are doing is illegal and you need to report them.. while some survey's are legal and not covered by the DNC, this type is not covered since its a survey done to sell you something with a "oh you won" come on..

I got a call from Solar Wavs 1-719-258-1703 and came here, saw the phone number for Silver King (800 864 1658) and called it. The lady told me she had never heard of Solar Wavs. I told her they were C&K Dist/Rsch she said that was an independent distributor that sold their vacuums. I told her about the scam and she said they were doing legitimate surveys which were legal since they were not trying to sell anything "over the phone." She wanted my name and phone number which I refused to give her (I am sure it was on her caller ID). Silver King is part of this illegal scam. Calling them does no good except to complain, which likely will not help.

Forgot to mention that they call me periodically, every several months, several times a day for a week or so.

My husband filled out a short survey at our front door to win gas. So they called ,unknown number, saying we were selected to go on for the grand prize also and that if we would allow an air purifier salesman to come by and do a short demonstration we would get a gift certificate of our choice. So the guy came, I asked how long the demonstration was, he said 30 to 45 minutes. I gave him 30 minutes. It was for a Blue Wave vacuum. It worked amazingly well with lots of impressive features. And it has a two generation lifetime guarantee. He was polite and knowledgable. We weren't going to buy it at first but he took $800 off the price and it is so versatile. It does purify the air also. And it's American made. The certificates were grocery coupons, that you have to print off, a vacation package, that you have to pay your way to get there, and a $500 shopping card to this crappy website. The shipping is just as much as what the item would cost at a store near us. We might use the vacation package. All in all we got an amazing vacuum out of the whole ordeal.

Number came up as unavailable. Operator claimed my husband answered the survey (he says he did not) and knew a lot about us, e.g. address, that we have a pet, etc. Said we had won and wanted to send their driver around to bring it to us right now. All we had to do was to give feedback on their product. I said we weren't going to be available. I bet they call back.

I took the survey and got the call about a winning gift card and a no pressure demonstration- too good to be true? Yes. I smelled a scam and looked up C and K research and all these comments came up!. I cancelled the appointment. I am a widow on a fixed income and buy my vacuums at a thrift store. Not interested!!! Dratted scammers! I also am on the do not call list.

I received five calls over two days from this number. They would not leave a voicemail. I finally answered on the fifth call and expressed my utter disdain for their harassment.  I told them to immediately remove my number from the list. The lady on the other end said that she was calling to inform me that I won free groceries but since I was so rude that she would remove me. Then she hung up on me. I'm sure this is a telemarketing scam. Beware and don't answer.

I work there and hate it. I was under the impression we did real surveys. just say you are over 70. I would complain that they are falsely advertising what they actually do since you never win said prize.

The do not call registry should close loopholes that allow surveys such as these. Annoying.

We received a call from Solar Wavs and decided to take the survey and scheduled an appointment for the next day to see the demonstration.  We prepared ourselves just in case it was a scam and got the gun set out for a worst case scenario.  In the end it was simply a company that makes vacuums and sells them like the Kirby.  The company makes something called the Blue Max, made by Silver King.  It is a fairly impressive machine, but it costs about the same as a Kirby.  Silver King uses the same direct sales strategy as Kirby, but also utilizes outside marketing companies to reach out for demonstrations.  The certificate is for $500, not $300, and is at a place called goshoppingmall.com.  The products are not the best, and even the Silver King demonstrator pointed out that you will be responsible for S&H on each item separately.  Silver King also offers a 2 day 3 night stay at select hotels, which can be a better choice depending on what you want to do and where you want to go.

The "research" is a valid statement, as they do ask you on what you think some possible improvements would be on the design.  I made a couple of suggestions, one was already being developed while the other was a new one that he thought was a good idea.  Yes, it is a sales pitch, but you do not feel pressured to buy it.  If you shoot down buying it, they do ask what are some things that would make it more reasonable to purchase, or if other payment options would make it feasible.  You do not have to purchase anything, you get the chance to provide feedback to the company on the product and purchasing options, and you still get the choice of two different certificates.

You actually do win something, and they do a demonstration on a product and ask for feedback.  You are not pressured into buying it.  If you don't want to buy it, simply tell them no thanks, you fill out the survey asking for input on the product and pricing, you get your certificates, and that is the end of it.

Research is more than science.  It is a company doing research on how the public views their product and how they can possibly improve on its design.  You can ask about cost of the product which then leads towards a sales pitch, but that is after they demonstrate it and provide some background on it.  You really can't simply show someone a product without telling them about it or the company and expect clear feedback.  Yes, they provide a solid demonstration and comparison, but how else are you to build a reference between products?  You are not pressured to buy, and the one thing they do repeatedly ask is how you can help improve the product.

    Tami,
I will always view any unwanted call as a potential scam. As for the initial response you received, I hope it will eventually receive a red stamp.

It doesn't matter that you win something. The purpose of this fake survey is to qualify you as a sales prospect for the company that does the demonstration. You only "win" if your survey answers make you a likely prospect for the item they are demonstrating. You can dress it up all you like but it IS a SALES presentation even if low pressure. That makes the initial call subject to the Telephone Sales Rule and the Do Not Call list applies.  The FTC has successfully sued companies using this tactic for DNC violations and the courts have upheld the FTC rulings that these calls are required to abide by the DNC list.

The same thing happened to me! Although I was a sucker for this, had the demo, got a so-called $500 gift card, and when I tried to see what the online shopping mall was about, realized it was a few overpriced items for sale with huge shipping and handling fees! When I tried to follow up with a complaint by calling the phones for CNK and for online shopping mall, I got no where. I am also in the do not call list and will report them.
