I just got the same message. Answered the call and they didn't repeat their number. If I didn't have a phone that stored the number I would have never been able to get the phone number to call them back. That's crazy. No agency would use a recorded messaging system this way. It is a scare tactic and scam. I am sure about that. I will not be calling them back. If it is about a payday advance, we have never done a pay day advance.

I received the same call an hour ago from State to State processing. I called them back and talked to a Mr. Wilson. They said a warrant for my arrest will be issue if I don't pay the $1755.00 off or get a lawyer. Also said my bank has been notified and will be in court too. It was a Denver Number ,720,but said they are in Jacksonville. I never had a pay day loan. They said the amount was from Nov. 12,2012.  I asked how I could pay it off and they said I can deposit the money into a Bank of America acct. or call when I get to a GE Money store and they will walk me through filling out the form. They were rude and hung up on me when i asked for more info. I called my bank and they had no idea what I was talking about, and went through my acct.s and found no deposits made from a payday loan. I also called TransUnion and they said nothing with that information was found on my credit report. Trans Union suggest I fill out a police report. After reading others got the same call, its a scam.

    >> its a scam. <<

    Correct.

A phone call from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

DON'T EVEN TRY replies to Mike
I rec'd the same message on my voice mail as everyone else and when I return the call. You never get to talk with a "live" person. These people are preying on people with their intimidation tactics. They will try to have you believe what they are saying is fact. For some reason I did connect with a "live" person. I flipped the script and told them I will pay any legitimate bill that is MAILED to you.  If "they" don't comply "they" won't see a dime. Oh they tried to tell me how urgent it was that I pay the amount immediately with a check over the phone or my debit card and if I didn't how the authorities were going to come and remove me from my job for fraud, I would lose everything. I concluded the conversation with well, can't and won't give you any money so I will await the arrival of the police... Please let them know I work til 5:00 p.m. est.  They wished me good luck and hung up. Trust me, you will neither get a bill or another phone call. They will and they do succeed at times where they intimidate someone who doesn't know any better to give them their financial information.... then your finances are wiped out. Only difference, when they contacted me, is I am a debt collector for the past 22 years and I would never treat a customer this way. I and the company I work for has never been sued and never ever take payments over the phone. We need a copy of the bill they are paying along with a credit card authorization form signed or a check or money order... we insist on a paper trail. So one bit of advice. Don't ever talk to anyone demanding money over the phone who is NOT treating you with respect and who refuses to back up their statements with documentation.  They need to substantiate their claims!

I got the same message twice this week as those above. A woman stating she needs to discuss "an urgent legal matter"... very annoying, earlier this year about a month or so ago, same type of call, called my personnel office reporting they needed information about me. Luckily, they were professional enough to not give them ANY information and took a message for me to call back. When I called back no answer but returned my call several times. I finally answered and told them to stop calling.

This is the exact call I got twice. I guess that is how it happened. I did not realize until I got a message from our IT department telling us at work not to reply or take any calls from these people.  It is OUTRAGEOUS! When somebody applies for an on-line or payday loan, they are usually desperate. Shame such people exist!
