You know, a few months ago I had an issue w/my HP computer and had to call for remote assistance--if this is an HP worker grifting numbers off of HP customers  in order to scam them, that's just one more reason to not buy Piece-of-Garbage products from HP.    This is not really a "telemarketer" call, it is a CON GAME/RIP-OFF call.  It's not a "prank" call, either--nothing funny about getting robbed.   800 notes would do well to put "SCAM/RIP-OFF" in their list of call types!!!!

Yes, I neglected to mention that my CALLER ID read PENNSYLVANIA as well.

These scammers claim to be Microsoft, or other reputable company. They also use the names of people they have scammed as their own. The government's do-not-call list means nothing to them, because they know they won't be punished. Get an answering machine, or voice mail, to screen your calls.

Calls several times a day over the last week. Saying I have computer problems

Calls ten to twenty times a day. Never leaves a message. I never answer. I've setup some fun crap for these [***] and  the next time they call they will get a nice shock.

Number keeps calling 6:00-6:30 am. Tried calling back says it a Verizon number that has been changed  or disconnected. Very frustrating!

getting calls from this numer very annoying

Got this call yesterday...India or Middle Eastern...VERY AGGRESSIVE!....Said he was an outside contractor with Windows and that he needed control of my computer because it was going to crash at any moment.  Asked for his company name which he said was Genesis Technology and then I kept questioning him until he gave me a number to call him back 619-822-2392......I told him I would check to see if he's a Windows Tech Support provider and call him back.  He became angry and said he had the ven# on my computer and if I'd just check he'd read it out to me.  He did know my first name when he called, which was weird and a little un-nerving.  He kept arguing until I hung up on him.

Since these morons are going to call no matter what I'm able to do I decided to mess with them. Now when they start their spiel I ask if they can hear me alright, when they say yes then I bang the phone down on the coffee table. I've found you don't have to hit it too hard in order for it to be pretty loud. Phone and coffee table are both fine and I'm guessing his ear hurts. If I can find something that makes more noise then I'll give that a try too. :)

He keeps calling, whee is the Law to protect us

Same, same. Called from a phony tech company and said she needed to talk to me about my "Windows computer." I told her that nothing is wrong with it and, before she could continue, told her I wouldn't let her take control of it and wouldn't pay her any money to fix it. She hung up on me - what a surprise. The same number called my VOIP phone and this time called my business cell phone. They're using autodialers to contact random numbers trying to find a sucker. Number now blocked.

What sounds like Indians are constantly calling and from new numbers every time I take care of one another calls. Now it's Arthur S. Trunza calling my home phone or of no where. They call and call and don't say anything maybe because I sound intimidating or maybe they have another agenda. Who knows but someone has got to stop this/them

Called my house asking for money thru microsoft scam

Yes, they have been calling the house phone (which is on the national do not call registry) multiple times a day for weeks.  So today I finally answered it and he had a heavy accent and said I was having problems with my Windows operating system.  I didn't give him any information but said so why are you calling me?  I asked if he was a telemarketer and said he should not be calling this private number.  Then he asked if it was a home phone. I didn't give him any information but said what do you have to say?  He said they noticed a lot of activity and that there was a problem with my system.  He did not identify himself as Microsoft or any other company for that matter.  Told him not to call but since they were so persistent, thought I'd post my experience here.  It's an obvious scam so please be aware!

Generally I don't answer these scammer calls, but for some reason today I did. After hearing a few minutes of the (heavily accented) caller's plea to access my computer, I told him nicely that I was aware of the scam and would they please not waste time calling any more. I was then called a "motherf***er" & hung up on.

I find some of these ‘faux telemarketer calls’ amusing.  Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will receive more of these calls.  Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid which assures more calls of these 'faux telemarketer calls'.  (I call them faux telemarketer calls as they are generally not legitimate telemarketers, but simply scams!)  Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a real person may be there on the follow up calls.  The majority of the calls are from a 'spoofed' number therefore the area code, exchange or even the entire number displayed on your caller ID probably does not accurately reflect the origin of a call.
If you have the capability to ‘BLOCK’ the number that called – that is the best action.  Since 2010 I have logged and currently block nearly 600 of these nuisance calls.
(NOTE: I have recently purchased equipment that can block by area codes.  I am in the process of blocking any area code where I do have any contacts.)
If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously.  This will reduce the number of nuisance calls, but not stop them.
If you really want to block them – in addition to a number of cordless phones available there is software that a layman can install.  Of the over 500 calls I’ve blocked, I've only added 16 over the last 3 months.  (Most of those are from a new series of numbers that were not previously blocked)
So the message is simple – blocking works….  Using the aforementioned processes I seldom have a second call from a given number.  But, when I do - I love it when "Number Blocked" shows on my 'Caller ID!!!  (When they call repeatedly it causes me to wonder about how stupid some of these dummies really are!)
PS:  I think Call Notes should add a 'Call Type' for 'Spoof' or 'Scammer Calls'!

They want to hack your computer and make you pay a ransom in order for you to get it back.
