They called from a crowded and noisy call center portraying an attorney's office. They sound like con artists looking for gullible victims. They asked to return their call to 844-425-9172

Harassment is an overused term.  They need to be jailed but for the proper charges which are much more than a summary offense.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

These dirtbags are beyond scum...calling every member of the family threatening them over a 16 yr old unknown debt

I received the call from the number 737-279-3999 and said, I have to call some legal office, there is a lawsuit against me. Be careful with these people, they are trying to steal money from you. Block the number immediately and mark it as spam caller.

I have been called a few times throughout the last two years.  They go away when I don’t respond but like a bad case of herpes, they always seem to show up. I don’t owe anyone anything. I have no debt. My credit is clean. The payments I have are minor so I know it’s not true.

I forgot to mention that they say they are calling on behalf of the processing and servicing division and that this call is in reference to a legal complaint that has been filed against me. They leave a 833-741-3418 number with a reference file number but the call originates from (737)279-3999.  I received this call over a year and a half ago and I have yet to be served or arrested and maybe it’s because i don’t owe anyone a thing or have legal issues with anyone. Lol.  I’m going to block them and since I have T-Mobile I can block them there also and report them as a scam.

The reality is that usually they just show up to serve you. This avoids you from hiding.  The server will call you himself if he needs to let you know and usually it’s our local Constable or Sheriff who do the serving.  The caller sounds legit but it isn’t.

Called me and every close family member regarding a sibling. The person on the voicemail says it is an urgent matter and to call a different number with the case number provided. All of it is just fraud/scam and see if one of us falls victim. Best advice is to block/report as spam/fraud.

I received a call from this supposed company and then my daughter got the same call but for me.  msg they left me was calling me on behalf of the processing and servicing division this call is in reference to a legal complaint that has been filed against you.  if i had any questions to contact their legal office 855-750-3395 and gave me a reference file number.  So I called, curious... was put on hold and finally a person answered and said it was a credit card from HSBC BEST BUY credit card.  I explained I have never had a best buy credit card.  He said that HSBC was a big company but was not sure if it was Best Buy or not.  Would not give me information as to what card it could have been and said I would find that information in court when I went.  All he would tell me is that the amount was from 2015 and that it was 663.00 but with court cost it was not 2081.00  But I could get nothing else out of him.  He did not ask for money even... this was a strange call.... did not ask where i lived, but he did have my social.  I went back to my credit reports and can find nothing there.   just a very strange collection call if you could even call it that.

This company is a SCAM.  They have tried calling me several times, and now they have tried reaching out to family members.  They said there was a complaint for two allegations against me, and I had 48 hrs. To return the call @ 888-421-4143.  Thank you so much fir this site and info.  I knew I had no legal matters hanging in the balance, and also thought it was strange that they would just keep calling me instead of just serving me with legal court documents.
