Myself, my parents and a distant 2nd uncle all received a call yesterday from an un-identified person looking for my husband because he needed to be made aware of a "file" that he was in posession of.  My husband has never used any of these people as credit references.....banking on it being some sort of a scam.  Number comes back to Charter Fiberlink Landline out of Smithfield Virginia.  
Has anyone else heard from this group?

Sounds like scammers.  If your husband was going to be sued, he wouldn't be getting a call - he'd receive notices in the mail about the alleged debt and then he'd be served a court summons by a process server - who would NOT give him a heads up.  If you get any information - such as company name and physical address - please do report your caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.  Refusal to identify the company is yet another violation of the FDCPA.

I have received several calls on my cell phone and work phone with the same message as above.  My wife has also.  
When I called back, I had to ask what the name of the company is and they told me Vance and Huffman, LLC.  I looked them up and they are in Smithfield, VA.  No other information.

Not sure who they're looking for but this 3rd call (with different numbers but same VA location) and I refuse to answer calls from unknown people.  If it's a collection company, they can rot in hmmmm for all I care.

This is a brand new company - opened for business 11/2013.  They are licensed to collect in the State of Florida.

I too received a phone call for my husband from "Cheryl" wanting to let him know about a "file" that they were in possession of and wanted to make him aware of it.  People....be sure to check your State's Statute of Limitations...most likely they are trying to collect on Time Barred debts (debts past your state's SOL).  If that is the case...they can't sue you and collect any $$$$!  Make sure you know your P's @ Q's on any old debt.

This was the first call from anyone in 3 yrs.
since I was consigner they told me I was as liable to pay or settle. Why should I help us both when it was his payment an made me feel like an [***] because he got behind. So instead do working it out with the bank he said [***] it an didn't pay at all. Soo yup when it was time an it got repoed I did nothing I didn't care I didn't need another truck an it was towed away.... 3 yrs ago collections called for me or us to pay the debt  after all collects were added an the truck sold at auction we had a left over balance needed to be paid .... No he'll in way was I paying for a truck I never drove. Now today collection wants me to make promised pAyments for /8 months..... I live in Maine . What are my choices now???

If you live in Maine, I live in "Never-land".
Your "choices" are really limited to...one. DEMAND a notice of validation. By MAIL. NOT e-mail or fax.
That'll be the end of that. Scum-bag frauds can never provide validation of a debt. Case closed. That's it.

Hopefully someone else will be along with more knowledge than I have... but... when you got a divorce, what mention was made of the debts incurred during your marriage?  Do you live in a community property state?  Also, did this company validate that they are the legal owners of this debt?

thanks but we werent married then the truck was repoed in 8/2010 an i was contacted by collection a few months later................i told them to go blow snow...... havent heard from a sole til now...

They call me every morning religiously. I googled the number and found this on the scam call fighters page.

I keep receiving phone calls from this number and finally went into my cellphone carrier and blocked the phone numbers.  Any collections I owe they can write me official letter.  I do not respond to harassing phone calls from collections.  And I'm already paying on collections from another crooked cell phone company, so collection agencies should not be calling about that. If they're looking for my husband, I will gladly give them the cementary he's buried at for the past 17 years!

I work for the company the files  are there, its not a scam at all!!! all you have to do is call the office identify your self and if you can verify the identity of your husband you will get all the information in reference of the file references are placed on file and we contact every one on the file to make the person aware of the matter .....and as UN-identified person ,not true we all identify ourselves when we get a person on the phone our office is located in smithfiield Virginia and this is the corporate office as well , our phone company is charter!! ITS NOT A SCAM SO IF YOU RECIEVE A CALL FROM US KNOW THAT THERE IS AN EXISTING FILE AND WILL BE PROCESSED WITH OUT YOUR STATEMENT!!!

Really?  Well then you won't mind posting the company name and physical address, will you?  The language you use in your post is exactly the same as that used by scammers.  "..There is an existing file and will be processed with out your statement!"  Yeah.  We're not buying that.  If legal action is being taken, the person does not need to make "a statement."

My family and I are receiving constant phone calls everyday, all day; and when asking what it is reference to, they just say file huber this and fill number that.  One lady got indignant when my family asked her to provide her name,        and she said, "Mam I have told you twice where I am from".

I received a phone call on my cell which i have only had for a year and do not give out except for friends and family leaving me the same message from above. Not 20 minutes later I got a call from Vance & Huffman on my work phone which caught me off guard because I have only been here a year and do not get personal calls. She stated that I owed for a payday loan from 2011 and had a balance of $500.00 but that I did make payments for 3 months and if that is correct then it would have been paid off. Then she asked me if I could take care of it today! I asked her how she got my work number and she said it was on the file. I told her not to contact me at work because it is against our policy.
So if I did pay off the loan how do I stop them from contacting me? I no loger use the bank that I did 2 yrs ago.

My husband and I plus my daughter and her husband plus numerous other people with no link or blood relation to us have been getting calls from this #. They leave a message from Penny about a file that does not pertain to us. They only call when no one is home to receive it and when you call back you get a robot call so you can not ask who or what they want. We have a unlisted phone # plus we are not on the DO NOT CALL LIST...What part of DO NOT CALL Do they not F-ing understand????? Are bills are paid we are not delinquent, the name you are calling for is not at this # We have had this same # for 27yrs. Get a F-ing life and leave us law abiding, bill paying people alone...I am so glad I don't have your job or I may have to kill myself...just saying!!!!!
