Here is how my call went...
(Heavy Indian/Pakistani Accent) "Hello? This is Mike Benson calling from the US Treasury... your wife is being investigated for some legal matters... (I politely asked him to hold on... & with nobody else in the house I scream,"HEY B!TCH! You're being investigated by the US Treasury! What do you want me to tell this guy?"

(... after a long pause...)   "Hi... hello? Mike?"

"Yes?"

"My wife told me, to tell you to Go F#ck yourself!" (and then I just hung up the phone.)

Did I handle that wrong? Golly-gee... I hope not.

I get at least 2 of these a week, it's either this dumb scam, or the Microsoft computer tech scam where they try to convince you that your computer is unsafe.

I just received a similar call from 760-678-5556. The caller id displayed a Barstow, CA. location.
The caller asked for me by name. I never confirmed my identity. The person calling was a male who spoke in a thick east Indian accent. He claimed that he was from the, "Department of Internal Affairs" and his name was John...Dead give away. I hung up. He called back 3 times. Never answered. Then I searched online for the number and found you guys.

Caller with heavy accent called  and left a voice message with return phone #760-678-5556. His name was William Rogers (with that accent? Hmmmm). He said he was calling from the Dept of Legal affairs about an important legal matter.

I got the same voicemail - but where can we report them??

Received a call about my ex-husband from the "Department of Legal Affairs and US Treasury".  Called him back and he was a complete loser sham...

Got call claiming to be from the Treasury Department.  I laughed at him and hung up. He could barely speak English

IRS Scamer.

Got a call on 6/29/15 asking for my wife who was not at home.   The caller had a thick accent like Raj on  The Big Bang Theory,  He identified himself as William Rogers of the U.S. Treasury and asked me to have my wife call 760-678-5556 as soon as possible as she was "involved in a legal emergency."  The caller ID came up as that same number in Barstow, CA.  It sounds like these jerks have been very busy attempting to prey on people whose only crime is to own a phone!

These people need to get a life...first this IRS scam and now a Treasury dept scam....WTF>>>

The parents just got a call asking for me with my maiden last name.  I haven't used that name for 30 years and never lived at the home with the number they used. Caller had strong accent and stated his name was Ricky Stevens (perfectly American name but strong accent...red flag!).  He said he worked for Department of Legal Affairs and asked that I call him as soon as possible or have my attorney call him as a legal action suit would be taken against me and we needed to talk before this got ugly.  The number was from Barstow, CA.  I told my parents I'm sure it was a scam...and now see that others are being scammed as well.

Call from "US treasury department" (thick Indian accent) asking that I call this number regarding important legal information. I call them back, he could not say my name, hung up while I giving the typical pissed off customer response (proved to me it was not an government agency).

I Owe the IRS around 5k.  If I don't pay it in two hours I will be arrested.  The call caused my wife almost heart attack.

Received a call from this number. A man with an indian accent tried to threaten my wife about back taxes. I took the phone demanding to know who he was, and that quickly ended with nasty language. After he said he had police down th street who would come and arrest me and I told him to F---Off. He did not like that so I hung up.

I just received a call from this same guy today.  He suggested I owed money for 2010 taxes.  He started with asking for my attorney's name.  He said I ignored 2x the request to accept a package from them stating the issues.  No their is an arrest warrant.

Same stuff as above.  This is a full blown scam.

Yes! Same exact thing just happened to me right now. Thick Indian accent referencing that I needed to actually have my lawyer contact him. How on earth do these people get our names and numbers :(

Got a phone call today from an "agent" who said I owed 4987.00 in taxes from 2011. That they had a warrant for my arrest and I would be locked up for 6 months if I didn't pay.  Of course I told them I had not received any documentation from the IRS and I have been paying my taxes. Would they not have subtracted the amount owed, would they not have garnished my money? I called them frauds and they hung up. So I called back and spoke with the same person "how convenient" who yelled at me to be prepared to spend the next 6 months in jail and then hung up again.
