Another scam

So got a call from 760-678-5556.  I called it back and asked for Mark Hanson (Thick Indian accent like everyone else), and left a message.  He called back and said they were issuing a warrant for my arrest because I haven't paid taxes for 2011. Since he said he was from the Legal Affairs office of the US Treasury I told him that I am a law student and I know for a fact that the IRS would only notify me of back taxes via US Postal Service. He asked me for personal information, which I refused to share, saying "You're the IRS, you tell me what my address is."  He argued with me for a few more minutes and then finally yelled "Do you want me to send police to arrest you right now?" To which I said calmly, "Go ahead, I'll wait for them."  Then he hung up the phone.  Oh well, at least I had fun.

I can't believe people still fall for this scam.

Same as all these comments.   I called back and the guy got mad and hung up.  I called again and they blocked my number.

I got the same guy calling, after he called back 4 times I put it on him, so to say. I now call him several times a day and tell him that he has been tracked by the US govt and will soon be arrested. He now has my # blocked, but I started using my families cell phones. Called and woke him up at 6:00am today.

Just got a call from this number saying something about being from department of legal affairs.  Thick Indian accent.  Must be a scam

Got the same call from someone claim to be William Rogers from the U.S. Treasury legal department.  With deep indian accent.

Was left a voice mail on home phone # with my first & last name- thick accent had to listen to message twice. He said he was from the dept of legal affairs and that a law suit as been started against me and to have my attorney call them right away. Has scam written all over it .. Who's Dept of legal affairs for one thing and no other contact (usps) !!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got the same call and im in Arkansas. I told them what I thought and that guy told me the same thing. I told him to have them come get me. lol. I should of asked them what I need to do to clear this up but I was pissed off. bet they don't call again. hae a great day.

Ha!!! I have been doing the same thing to him. I am also asking my friends to call him and ask for different people. Same number that everyone else is getting calls from in Barstow CA.

I had the same thing, but his name was Kevin Brown.

Thank goodness for this website- James Hatters called from the Department of Legal Affairs to tell me legal action has been against me. Whatever. Good luck with that!

Oh I LOVE your response to that. I wish I had thought of that, but the guy had me so rattled ARGUING with me about the legal issues with my husband that the witty side of me got silenced. I am SO glad that you were able to retain your calm to come up with his payback!!

Claiming to be Department of Treasury

This number called my PARENTS home phone several times asking for me and telling them that there was a warrant for my arrest and I needed to pay a certain amount of money. THANK GOD, I googled the number and found this!

Called and asked to speak to my son, "John Doe", saying there was some sort of legal action against him.  Told him son wasn't home so he asked for his cell number.  I did give it to this person with a thick accent.  Then googled the number, bringing me to this site.  Contacted son and told him not to give any info to whoever called him.  Not 10 minutes later, I got another call from the same number, however it was a different person on the phone, asking if this was the "Doe" residence.  Told them to stop calling here.  Definitely some sort of scam.

Had gone out for a while, when I returned I had a voice mail on my machine that said she was Jennifer ....... and I needed to get in touch with her at the department of legal affairs because there was a claim filed against me and that if I could not call to have my lawyer to call this number in California. Could not say my last name right and definitely didn't have a southern accent, so I knew I was not in trouble. What a bunch of jerks out there trying to prey on the working class and scaring our seniors. The law just doesn't do enough to people like this to deter it!

Rule #1------Google the number before you do anything

Same scam except he gave me the name of "Mark Hansen". Same message saying he was from the "legal affairs department for the U.S. Treasury" and that I needed to call back immediately or contact my attorney before harsh legal action would be taken against me and my account. Same thick Indian accent with broken English, and he called my parents home phone number, which is no longer associated with any of my banking or legal information.

Same thing only my Indian was named Mark Hansen. Told me to get an attorney. Yeah, ok.
