- Alfalfa replies to DeeThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you
.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

- InAZReceived a call morning of 5/19/14, when I answered it was a female voice recording to contact a number urgently, but I could not take the number down. Called back right away and says it is JMC Associates and put me on hold. Called all day and could not get ahold of someone. Towards the afternoon the recording says you reached Affiliate Receivables Group Inc.
Called them today at 7:30 am and spoke to a very rude man raising his voice because I would not give him my name before he identifies himself or his "company". He hung up on me. Called back, spoke to a female who said "it's not gonna happen" when I asked what company it is, and I heard the 1st man I spoke to in the background saying something. Called back a third time and no answer. The 4th time I spoke to a nicer man who identified himself as a supervisor, who stated the "company" has several "businesses" and that it was a wrong number. I told him his associates were rude. He said he would listen to recordings and determine that.
While writing this, a call from that number just came in again to my cel, saying it is Peter Cambria trying to get ahold of me to deliver an important packate. Recording says to call 888-547-????, i missed the last 4 digits, possibly 3774.
They are on my reject list now. - MelissaFunny I received a call same date 5/19/14 same message same guy saying the same thing .. but never before... safe to say i will not be calling him back

Says it is "toll-free". Number is 888-540-3774. Have no paperwork expected from anyone.- Caller: Peter Cambria
- KarlIf he can get my phone number, why cant he get my address to deliver the paperwork. And never asks for me by name.
- Diane ZarseI have received this phone call 3 times. It is always a recording, never repeats the phone number. I call'd 888-540-3774 the last time I received the call it put me on hold. Never came on, I eventually hung up. Today he didn't give me a name but it is the same voice but today it was to call the 770 number. He said his name is Peter Cambria. Today the call says Florida and that number is 305-368-8503. He she has tried to reach me at my place of business and home, that he needs my mailing address to send important papers.

- JB| 1 replyReceived numerous calls from 888-540-3774 before about having paperwork for me. Got a new call today from the same number. The female voice claimed to be a private courier by the name of Laura King. She said she had sealed documents that required my signature and that I must be available at work between noon and 5pm. She said I would need 2 forms of valid ID and that one of my supervisor or HR rep must also sign as a witness (scare tactic?). Then she said if I wanted to speak to the filing party with any question or to stop the delivery to call 770-450-6182.

- MZI received call from 770-450-6182, a female recorded voice stating that they have documents for me to be delivered tomorrow, and that they acknowledge this is my workplace, which it is, and would need my signature, as well s my supervisor, and two forms of ID, the docs would be delivered form 12-5 tomorrow(?), and I wanted to Stop it, I would have to call back 770-450-6182. It sounded pretty serious, as it was a message left on my VM at work, and if I was being served "something", I Certainly wold not want that delivered to work, and have my supervisor have to sign anything. It made me want to call right away to "stop" the delivery, but something (like my name was never mentioned in the message) made me search" the phone number, only to see a bunch of sites like this.
- Caller: not stated
- JJJust got the same message as MZ! I HAD to be home between 12 and 5 tomorrow for a packaged letter. They need 2 forms of ID and either a witness of HR person if is would be at work. Thi has got to be a scam - been unemployed for 10 months - just got a job, and no one knows where I work, so how could have tried to deliver the package today? This is BS, If company thinks I owe them money - prove it! I don't pay collection companies, nor will I give money to people who try to force me to pay without providing me with proof of debt. If there is a debt - prove it - otherwise bugger off.
- S SchoessowThey keep calling me about important paperwork to be delivered.
- Caller: JMC associates
- KBYes, I am also receiving these same calls all identical to the previous posts. Same names and same #'s with the same requests. I am not expecting any paperwork. I really don't want to speak to anyone and will probably get the #'s blocked by my phone company. However I would like to report these people making these intimidating calls.
- Caller: Peter Cambria, Laura King
