Answered call from this number and a person asked for my wife. I asked if I could take a msg and he said, "no" and promptly hung up.

I need to find the prefix for blocking specific calls from this organization. Think it's *86 + number but need to double-check...

BTW, there are two groups exempt from the DNC list: companies you are doing business with currently and non-profit organizations. You have to tell each one of them to not call.

Called wanting to speak to the head of household.  Asked for them by their first name.  Told caller the party was not in and if I could take a message.  Caller hung up without replying.  Not the first time they have called.

Got a call from Georgia Veterans Alliance at 770-452-9620. They asked for a donation, a personal check, to be placed under the doormat for them to pick up the following day. Is that normal? Sounds real fishy to me.

They called me today from 770-452-9633.  It is the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance.  They said they were a tax-exempt charity but they aren't.  They are a non-profit corporation registered in Georgia but if they give any money to vets it's impossible to check.  Stay away.

*** I think they are legit...just a little weird how they do it.  Att: GA VVA...on your website list the phone numbers you solicit with so that people may have a little verification of your organization***

My wife got the same call as the last guy...from 770-452-9633...from the GA Vietnam Vet Alliance.  They do seem weird and shady...leave a check under the door???

Buuut they have a website gvva.org...and a building (200 feet from a police station, paid a ticket there before) and (per the website) the founder/president is named' as are many other board members (names and addresses...checked that a couple of these exist)...the president is quoted in an ajc.com story (http://www.ajc.com/news/doctor-relives-fall-of-501483.html)...and there are no google results showing they are fraudulent.

Their website phone#s approximate those listed on this site.

Listed on the GA chamber of commerce: http://ga.chamberocommerce.com/member/1257371 ... aville_GA_30340

Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance (GVVA) is legit.
They're actually a pretty good group.

The few GVVA guys I talked to / met were actual Vietnam Vets who volunteer for GVVA.
Like any group, some are more "polished" than others.  :-)
You may get one that is "less polished" but they believe in their cause and sometimes can be a bit persistent.
Once you donate, they'll call you twice a year (when they have their fund drives), which is O.K. with me since I believe in supporting our Vietnam Vets and these guys actually do some good work.

Overall, they are a good outfit I donate to.

    Cheers . . .

I just got a call from 770-452-9583 which said they were Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance asking for a check to be placed outside my door.  They would pick it up tomorrow before 5 pm and leave a receipt for a tax deduction.

GVVA has a website GVVA with minimal information.  I checked www.guidestar.org (free, registration required) which lists the annual Form 990 that every tax exempt organization must file with IRS.  There is no Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance, nor anything I could find using the EIN 58-79163424 they provided.

As I still had them on the phone, they corrected the EIN as 58-1846341 which Guidestar lists as National Vietnam Veterans Alliance, but the name on the return says Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance, Inc.  The latest return is 2012 which shows  $641,517 of gross receipts with just $81,891 going to help veterans.   The rest:  $384,462 went to payroll expenses, $19,860 rent, $10,496 office expenses, $10,029 bank charges, $4,589 insurance and a bunch of other charges.  President Marvin Meyers got a $50,000 salary.  Mr. Meyers is also president of another Veterans organization listed as National Vietnam Veterans Alliance Inc, EIN 58-1999360.

There is no do not call list for charitable or non profits. I have been working with veterans for quite some time. I also am one, I do understand people not wanting to be bothered at home so if your not interested in helping veterans or any other charity you must request them not to call.

I just got a call from 770-452-9583.  They claimed I donated last year, though I don't recall doing so.  Anyway, I agreed to leave a check under the doormat.  But then I tried to call back after we hung up to ask a question & got a computer message telling me that the phone number was out of service or disconnected.  I left voice mail for Mr. Meyers, whose contact phone number on their website is apparently legit, & asked him to return my call.  Then I started doing my internet research.

I totally appreciate the above discussion!  If they actually show up at my door tomorrow, instead of a check, they will find a printout of this forum, with a request to remove my number from their call roster.

Just to address some comments made here. EVERYONE at gvva is paid. the people making calls are paid between 10 and 35 percent of the total donation. The guy who picks it up is paid to do so and gvva has three paid employees. the president is paid a extremely high salary compared to other small charities.

Unfortunately the president is a racist  and has verbally berated veterans asking for help.

Yes, Georgia Veterans Alliance (GVVA) is legit. They helped my husband when he was out of work in 2003.
They leave a receipt and yes I leave my check in a baggie under the doormat.  The check is endorsed "For Deposit Only" by you.  Made out to GVVA.

Or... Maybe you are a shill?   Chiming in to multiple old posts from 2014 and 2015?  So what brings you here? Not looking up a number, I don't imagine.
