If you are getting the calls on your cell phone, there usually is a way to block calls from that number. Sadly, if you block the number, it may not stop them because they may just get another number and contact you again. It's kind of like the mole game at a carnival - once you hammer one mole, another pops up in its place.

The good news is a company like noborobo.com figured out the technology to block these slimeballs on one ring.  The Feds should buy their technology and dump the Do Not Call failed system.  A smart politician should get behind this.  And get re-elected.

The DNC isn't a failed ssytem but it's also not magic. It can't keep you from getting calls, you know.

I asked the caller to remove my number from his list, he said "no", I said did you say no?  He said he wanted to bother me.  I said I would call the police, he said go ahead.  Why should we be subjected to these calls?

Because scammers don't care if you don't want to be called. Block the number or, if you don't know one in the 773 area code, block the entire thing.

I too was lucky enough to receive a call from uncle Hubert at the above number. I didn't take his call, but ended up after googling his name. It's unfortunate that the people who might speak to you can't find honest and more productive employment.

Didn't answer.  Thanks to 800Notes, I can verify that it was, indeed, a scammer.  I get calls everyday, but I can't block entire area codes because they are using my relatives', friends', or my own area code.  I have researched over 20 calls in my own area code and found the numbers to be disconnected or non-working numbers. The scammers have info on unassigned numbers.

I've been getting more of these calls in the last week. Seems the scammers are being a little more aggressive.  I still always pick up and mess with them when I have the opportunity. Sometimes just act really dumb and frustrate them, sometimes feeding them fake credit cards until the realize they've been wasting their time. I personally find it entertaining and less than a cable subscription.

we need to change the law to disallow phone numbers with no call backs, it would end all the foreign phone over the Internet scams, and the ones in the other countries with legitimate business calling here would still be able to call.

    Good grief!
Have you not yet learned that criminals do not obey laws?

The real question is, "When will YOU get a call blocker, and start to help yourself, since the govt is moving too slowly for you?"

Please keep up with the news, rather than make specious statements.

The FTC and top communications companies met several times, to determine what they can do to stop robocalls and other illegal calls.  Here is a link to a page showing the history and conclusions of various initiatives, as well as links to recent Congressional bills and Industry Implementations.

    http://www.phonehelp.2truth.com/initiatives.html

(I strongly suggest you access the above page, and read the history and progress of
    H.R.2669 - Anti-Spoofing Act of 2015
    and
    S.2558 - Spoofing Prevention Act of 2016
to learn how [slowly] bills progress through our Congressional system, even when there is bilateral agreement that something should be done.)

Refer to the wise insight Slim left. Foreigners outside the country have little to worry about in regards of being caught. Cussing you out, threatening you, and insults are their way of getting back at you for not buying their pitch. No kind of answer on your end works wonders for killing their urge to bother you. What's more is you won't hear anything but a ringing phone if you can do it.
