Spam! Free this, free that, spam!

"WCA" now using this local number. It is a scam for free or low cost vacations from the "Vacation Club." WCA has called before and I have asked to be taken off the list before, but..., you know  the game.
What is of interest is how the technical communication end of this works. I pressed 1 to speak to a CSR and while very gently asking to be taken off the list (she politely said she would do this) I asked her if she was in Chicago CID number is local Chicago). She said no. I advised her spoofing CID is a fraud. However, the number was NOT spoofed, it was rented to WCA by a company named voip.ms with offices in Dallas, TX. Check these guys out: https://www.voip.ms/ They offer a "local number" for thousands of towns in US and Canada. The numbers are "real" but really fake. It is a massive use of voip. Essentially what this now means is that the phone scammers can use dozens/hundreds of phone numbers (instead of changed every couple of weeks) which will not trigger enough volume for any kind of spam enforcement.
Great clever money making idea, too bad it is offered for and used by bottom dwellers.

I forget to mention. This telephone service is called Direct Inward Dialing (DID). Google Talk would be a similar process. DID has really useful legitimate applications, phone scamming is not one of them.

My daughters recently received calls from this number on their cell phones.. when my daughters answered - the caller did not respond to them at all

I keep getting calls too and they don't leave a message.

They call constantly from this number, up to 3 or 4 times per week, never leaving a message. I don't recognize this number at all.

Two calls: 7-3 and then 7-4!! Happy Holidays!! Each call intercepted. "Katie." see above, claims affiliation with WCA and "Special Offer Service." She suggests contacting http://www. wca consent .com/HOME.html to remove your name. I will try that and report back.

Got a call from this number. I did not answer and they did not leave a message. At least they did not waste my time with a voice mail.
