Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - ShellyCalled me at 5:30 a.m. to tell me the IRS was starting a fraud investigation on me. Did not call them back. Did call the treasury Inspector General and let them know of the call.
- Caller: Not sure
- Call type: Prank
- Don QuixoteA guy with Indian accent, a.k.a. Michael Davies, claimed I owe to IRS $2,000 since 2010. Wanted immediate payment via phone and threatened to take mi to the court otherwise.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Liz replies to JackI got a call today informing me that the IRS was starting a fraud investigation. The number I called was 779-552-6416 and the caller ID name was Anthony White.
All 3 men I spoke to had an Indian accent. The first time I called, the man said his name was Michael Davis and I owed $3,200. I asked to speak to a supervisor and his name was Steven Jones. I called back later after the second man hung up on me when I said I was going to call the actual IRS. I called back later after reading this post to see if my name had been flagged somehow because I wasn't going to pay anything. The 3rd man's name was Brian Smith! Such American names, right? This time, I owed $1,500.
Total scam...beware! - MarkCaller left a VM saying the irs was suing me. I called the number back and nothing but voicemail
- Scottish LassReceived a threatening call today stating that IRS was suing me for $4,000 unpaid taxes. I asked him to provide me with additional information, but he was unable to do that. I said I was not going to pay any money today so he hung up. The man had a strong Indian accent. It smelled like scam; it was a scam.
- DianeThey left several messages on my VM, stating that they were starting a tax fraud investigation. The caller name on my caller ID was Anthony White. I received other calls a couple of months ago from different numbers saying I owed them money. Didn't call this number back, but will report it to the Treasury Inspector General office. Another scam trying to get your money. The IRS doesn't call you, they send letters via through the U.S. Post Office.
- Caller: Tax Audit Department
- Call type: Debt collector
- Rosie CobosI got a call today informing me that the IRS was starting a fraud investigation. The name on the caller ID was Anthony White. The number he called from was 779-552-6416. I answered the phone, and listened to the message. He told me to call this number for more information. I haven't returned the call because I wanted to check to see if this was a scam. I reported it to www.tigta.gov.
- Caller: IRS
- Linda CobosReceived the same call. Anthony white on caller ID. I told my husband not to worry, its a scam. IRS would never leave a message telling you they are going to sue. You would get a letter via US postal service. How do I know? Common Sense.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Grant EllisGot same call as above. Told him my tax preparer was an enrolled agent and former IRS fraud investigator. Who told me that the IRS NEVER contacts by phone as a first means of contact. Also you would think in India they could find ONE DAMM PERSON who can speak ENGLISH!! Lord know we have plenty of Indian speakers here in the US!!
