The Texas Senior Medicare Patrol received a complaint about a Social Security scam from 800-210-9196.  The scammer told the victim that his/her Social Security number had been compromised and was being used in El Paso, AND that a FBI warrant had been issued for the arrest of the victim [scammer gave victim the name and badge number of the “FBI agent” and the “Social Security officers”].  THIS IS A SCAM.  MEDICARE WILL NEVER CALL YOU.  SOCIAL SECURITY WILL NEVER CALL YOU.  Report these scams to the Federal Trade Commission (https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov), and your state's Senior Medicare Patrol (1-877-808-2468, or https://www.smpresource.org).   DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR MEDICARE OR SOCIAL SECURITY IDS.  PLEASE NOTE: Social Security has launched a dedicated on-line form at https://www.ssa.gov/fraudreport/oig/public_fraud_reporting/form.htm to receive reports from the public about Social Security-related scams.  Check your Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs).  If you see that Medicare has been billed for medical services, equipment or prescriptions that neither you nor your doctor has ordered, report that information immediately to your state's Senior Medicare Patrol (1-877-808-2468, or https://www.smpresource.org) and to Medicare (1-800-MEDICARE, 1-800-633-4227).  Victims should also report this scam to their local police department.
