I got a phone call from ADT that they received a burglar alarm signal. I don't have ADT and refused to give them any of my information.

Hmm if I could just get whomever who works at ADT to stop giving out my cell phone number as their return call number I'd be great.. funny part is I just got a 2nd line added on my verizon account and now ADT calls me nonstop on one line in error, and gives out my other line as their local call back number, I get wrong numbers from panicked customers several times per week.

I received a call saying they were from ADT and they were receiving a trouble signal. I don't have ADT service. The also said that they were trying to reach a Matthew McHill. Obviosly not me. You would think that as a security service, they would have their numbers straight.

Exactly. Just happened to me I didn't remember to shut off the alarm when I got home and opened the garage door that's monitored. Talked awhile to a neighbor, cop came by and checked things out. Got a call on home phone and my cell. Good service.

called in response to someone's broken window. I asked what name they have on account as I don't use their company for my security system, and gave me a name of a woman I've never heard of. TOld them they dialed the number she gave them , but I haven't heard of her and you need to have her give you correct contact # , especially for an emergency like this!

Thats ADT, was called by their security today to say that they normally do a monthly check on the systems to make sure the home system is communicating with their center.

Got called today and said that my system's monthly report came back as an error and she wanted me to intentionally set off the alarm and see if it alerted their monitoring system. Asked for my name and our password and stayed on the phone with me the whole time to make sure their system picked up our alarm being set off. Assured me that she set it as a test so the police wouldn't come out and charge me with a false alarm being set off.

Anyways, did as I was asked to do and told my system was working just fine and they wanted to call to make sure that our system was able to alert their monitoring service just in case it ever went off for real.

I didn't even know that they did a remote test on it monthly. Very nice to see a security service on top of their game.

I received a call from this number at 12:05am Labor Day. It went to voice mail. When I retrieved the voice mail I couldn't understand the message. I thought it said something about a bank and the person did state my name but I don't have a clue as to why my number was called. When I tried to replay the message it had already been wiped from the vm. Figured it was some kind of scam. Still do.

Okay. Seems my sister's smoke alarm battery was out and ADT called everyone on her list. She received three messages and she couldn't understand any of them. At least it wasn't a scam but you think ADT would verse their people in proper phone etiquette. I don't care which side of the ocean you are on.

Jules - Obviously you didn’t read any of the other posts.  1-800-238-2727 is the number for ADT Security Services.  You have been called because they have your phone number and there is some type of alarm event with an account that your phone number is associated with.

Why do they have your phone number?

    You either:

    a) are an ADT customer and have alarm services with them, and you gave them your telephone number to call if an alarm event occurs.

    b) know someone who has a security system with ADT, who, either with or without your permission, told ADT to list your name and telephone number as an emergency contact associated with their account to be notified in regards to alarm events with that persons system.

    c) work for or are associated with a company, business, government facility, or organization that has a security system with ADT, and whomever at that company setup the account, either with or without your permission, told ADT to list your name and telephone number as an emergency contact associated with that account to be notified in regards to alarm events at the location.

    d) were mistakenly listed by an ADT customer who obviously doesn't know the correct phone numbers of people they want called if they cannot be reached due to an alarm event at their home or business.

Although ADT has many inbound toll free numbers to reach them, all of their outbound calls (with a few exceptions) are listed with the caller ID 1-800-238-2727 (1-800-ADT-ASAP).

It’s really not that difficult folks.  If it’s a mistake - tell them so.  If you get a voice mail message and can’t understand it, call them back.  If you get awoken at 3:00 am and you can’t understand them - maybe it’s because you were suddenly awoken at 3:00 in the morning.  I certainly am not 100% with it when I’m suddenly awoken at 3:00am.  Maybe ask ADT whose account you are listed on and thank your buddy who has an ADT alarm system later for giving you the heads up that you may get a call.  And if you are supposed to be there on the contact list – put the number in your cell phone so it will appear as “ADT” when they call and not a random 800 number.  Otherwise, while you are scouring the internet trying to do a search on this “strange” 800 number calling you, your cousins house is burning down and ADT is trying to reach you because the fire department is on the scene and requesting somebody respond.

Bottom line - If you or your phone number was seemingly given in error to ADT by one of their customers to put down as a contact for their alarm system in the event of an alarm event, call ADT and tell them so.  Give them your telephone number and they will be able to pull up the account immediately that your number is associated with, and - guess what - at your request - delete you from that list.  Life goes on.

Tell your sister to answer when somebody calls - it makes it a whole lot easier to ask someone to clarify or repeat themselves if you are confused.

If you live in North America, you are getting calls from one of ADT's eight monitoring centers located in

    Aurora, CO
    Jacksonville, FL
    Kansas City, MO
    Irving, TX
    Rochester, NY
    Calgary, Canada
    Montreal, Canada
    Knoxville, TN

So not quite sure what ocean your talking about.  Maybe the New York accent was throwing you a little bit?

But yeah, thank god it wasn't a scam.  We appreciate you clearing that up for all of us.  ha

Absolute BS jonny.  1-800-238-2727 is ADT corporate.  They don't run credit checks.  Your friend must have gotten a system from an ADT "sub-dealer" who do run credit checks.  Don't know how that process works but do know for sure that if your phone says 1-800-238-2727 it has nothing to do with your friends credit or you being a reference.  Maybe his alarm is going off and he listed you as an emergency contact, and ADT is trying to let you know that the police are en route to your buddy's place?  What a concept.

ADT now is able to use caller ID (if use the phone they dialed) to identify the account associated with your number.  That way you can find out if the call concerns a business or residence that intentionally listed you or was a typo.  (You would know if it were a business, but a friend or relative -- maybe not.)

Since they have the information linked to accounts, it should be easy for them to remove your number if it is an error.

They call for "supervisory alarms", which simply means that there is some sort of electrical fault with the alarm system.  The customer can decide whether to receive "supervisory alarm" notifications at limited hours, e.g. not between 23:00 and 06:00.

I would never give out my name and my password to someone that called my home. Hopefully it was for real, but i am the emergency contact for my office alarm, have been for 11 years, and they have NEVER called to check this system like that. Sounds fishy to me.
I would tell them I am going to call my local ADT office and ask them to run a test if necessary. Never give out passwords or secure information to someone that calls. They can now walk into your home and disarm your system and wipe you out or worse.
